Just found out that I have to travel to Chicago for work. However I will have time to squeeze in some recreation. I have NEVER been there before. But I know a few things that I must do!! and have no idea where to do them!!??! If anyone can help me out with some of these or recommend some other fun, food, entertainment things to do there I would really appreciate it. My list... -Steak House -Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza -Chicago Style Hot Dog -MJ Statue
-Gino's East -Pizza Mike Ditkas.. you just have to go also go to the second city - where all the SNL people came from michigan avenue is sweeet
You have to take a stroll down Michigan during the day. That was really enjoyable the few times I went to Chicago. I went to a game at Wrigley as well. I luckily knew someone there who took me to a pizza joint that mobsters used to frequent. Even had some killings out front. Drive down the lakeshore too. I love Chicago in the Spring/Summer, hate that place in the Winter.
Do a Cubs game at Wrigley if you can. Billygoat Tavern....."Cheezboigah, Cheezboigah, cheeps, cheeps, pepsi"

You must also go to a blues bar. Maybe Buddy Guy's. If I remember correctly, there was a nother blues bar across the street from Buddy Guy's that was even better.
Check out Millenium Park. Since I'm a rookie again and can't start threads I will ask this here. I'm heading out to Wrigley to see Craig Biggio play his last game there and was thinking about sitting in the bleachers. I noticed on the Cubs' website they don't have bleacher tickets there. For anyone who has been to Wrigley do you buy the tickets the day of the game?
Navy Pier, Jazz House, Giordano's Pizza, ride the orange train, eat in Chinatown, walk near Lake Michigan, Millenium Park (see the giant silver orb), the art museum.
you also should try eating at the restaurant i believe its called "ed debevicks" or something like that, but its basically a burger diner where the waiters objective is to treat you like crap i know it sounds unorthodox but its actually a really funny experience....also visit navy pier, i was lucky enough to go a couple summers back when the miss USA pageant was being held and got to take a few pictures with the girls
The MJ statue was a disappointment for me. I always thought it was gonna be big but it's only about life-size. When I got there I was like...THAT'S IT??
But seriously, how much enjoyment can one get from a statue? Museum statues are one thing, but an outdoor statue--I say maybe 2 minutes worth of excitement. Also how come everyone touches a statue when they see it for the first time?
Don't forget to wear your "Rockets Would Have Won Their Two Championships Regardless If Jordan Would Have Not Sat Out Because Of Gambling Allegations, Er, His Baseball Career" t-shirt.
For Deep Dish Style Pizza, try Giordano's (they're all over the city) or Gino's East (there's one in River North and another in Lakeview). My personal favorite is My Pi's, which is north of downtown at Clark and Fullerton. For Chicago Style Hotdogs, try Howies, on Wabash and 12th (I think...it's one block south of the Roosevelt Red Line on Wabash). Weber Grill is awesome in general. Wrigley is a must if you've never been as is Second City, although you'll want to try to get tickets to Second City at least a couple days ahead of time. If you can't get into Second City there is another improv theatre on Clark near Addison called the I/O theatre which is really good. If you're into jazz at all, I'd also reccomend the Green Mill, on Lawrence and Broadway. You can take the red line right up there. It was one of Capone's old hangout and has still retained that old school mobster feel. Some of the best jazz in the city goes on here. Enjoy your visit. Its an incredible city despite all of the Cubs fans.
F***. Weber. Grill. Maybe it's because I'm not Caucasian or something but my two older brothers, my girlfriend and I stopped there because it looked...neat. We were told that it would be an hour to an hour half wait which was fine because we knew it was going to be busy. We were seated and it took them 15 minutes to come by to get our drink order. It took another 10 minutes to get bread to the table. The waitress took our order and it didn't come for about 30 minutes. When it DID come, the steak was cold and tough. The mash potatoes were cold. It seemed like the orders were on the counter for a while. I could have understood if it was really busy and she was the only waitress, but they were fully staffed from what I saw. Horrible, horrible service. I DON'T bring up the race card much at all, but in this situation, I think it had everything to do with it. This is the location near Butterfield btw. But do take Azadre's advice though: -Navy Pier -Michigan Ave. Giordiano's is very good. So is Duo's (it's near Michigan Ave.) Like seafood? Make a drive to Bob Chin's. You won't be sorry at all. TRUST ME.
I've never had a problem with Weber and I'm not caucasian either...but I usually go to the one downtown. That sucks though. I had a an experience like that at Grand Lux in Houston down near the Galleria. Never been back since. Ditto the duo's reccomendation. Where is Bob Chins?
ed debevics is okay, but for a similar but much better (in fun and in food) experience definatley hit up dick's last resort if you havent. a live band, rowdy waitstaff and great food. its also right by navy pier. awesome.
