So, I'm reading Born to Run (as I'm sure many of you have), and in it, the author talks about a drink the Tarahumara Indians drink called Chia Fresca. Basically, it's Chia seeds partially dissolved in water, some sugar (or honey or agave), and lime juice. It's supposed to be a natural energy drink, and extremely healthy for you. I just made a batch, and it's pretty tasty to boot. I might start drinking this more often. Maybe it's the placebo effect, but as I'm typing this, I feel a little energy boost. Anyone else try making this? I just wanted to post here before I did more research...
High fiber, decent protein, low glycemic index, high essential fatty acids, high in antioxidants, on and on. Supposed to make you feel fairly full for a decent period of time. It all sounds good. Anyone object?
I just think of Ch Ch CH Chia. Anyways about how much do you put in a cup? I'll try some instead of coffee this morning.
1 tablespoon. Stir it initially. let it sit for ten minutes or so and stir it again. It's not for everyone, as the Chia seeds become a bit slimy. I really like it though. The lime juice (or lemon or any citrus you want to use....you can add mint, too) really makes it refreshing.
I believe my Salvadorean peeps can attest to the awesome flavor of CHAL (I think that's what it's called), the drink that contains these seeds and has natural flavors. I have a bag of this from Vitamin Shoppe. It's fairly cheap. I've added it to yogurt, soups, etc. It's good.
Drank some, was different. The little sticky seeds snuck out and stuck everywhere. Did taste bad, but it was strange. Felt a little energy boost also.
