What's not to like about a *news* organization run by former Republican party apparatchiks? What was unofficial now becomes the official *news* source of the Republican party. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A53974-2004Apr29.html Cheney Praises Fox News Channel Vice President Calls Network 'More Accurate' Than Others By Mike Allen Washington Post Staff Writer Friday, April 30, 2004; Page A05 Vice President Cheney endorsed the Fox News Channel during a conference call last night with tens of thousands of Republicans who were gathered across the country to celebrate a National Party for the President Day organized by the Bush-Cheney campaign. Fox News styles its coverage as "fair and balanced," but it has a heavy stable of conservative commentators that makes it a favorite around the White House. It is unusual for a president or vice president to single out a commercial enterprise for public praise. . . .
Good lord... is Cheney completely off his rocker? I think he's beginning to believe that a "National Party" with it's own National News Network is a peachy idea. Any of you conservatives out there find this a tad bit bizarre?? What's next, one national party without a pesky media giving them fits? With the compliant NNN fawning all over them? I used to think this was just Science Fiction, the realm of an author's imagination. Now I'm not so sure it's so far out at all. We have a national emergency going on and the President could use extradinary powers with a nod from a party-controlled congress. Possible? Nah. Couldn't happen in this country. Could it.
Remember a while back when there was a report out that said those who listened to Fox News were the worst informed? "What I do is try to focus upon those elements of the press that I think do an effective job and try to be accurate in their portrayal of events. For example, I end up spending a lot of time watching Fox News, because they're more accurate in my experience, in those events that I'm personally involved in, than many of the other outlets." No wonder things are so screwed up.
No the mainstream media has been bent to profitability for years. The mainstream media covered the 2000 election as if Gore actually did claim to have invented the internet. The coverage of a felony and national security breach by one of the top officials in Bush's cabinet has received far less coverage than the Monica Lewinsky stuff. The stealing of computer files by Republican congressmen and their aides, has barely gotten covered at all. The list goes on and on.
"Don Rumsfeld is the best secretary of defense the United States has ever had," Cheney, who has sometimes taken a lead role in advancing White House positions, said in a statement issued by his office late on Saturday. Hmmm. Fox is more accurate. Rummy better then George Marshall...
CHENEY: Hey, Rupert, you scratch my back and I'll give you millions in tax breaks. Cheney's not much for subtlety.
And Ted Turner and Jane Fonda have no ties to the Democratic Party? There's a conservative news and there's a liberal news. Both will be pretty accurate but show their lean on stories, so get over it.
This is like the fourth time I've posted this in the last year.... CNN was acquired by Time Warner in 1996; as would be considered logical, Ted Turner's influence began to wane slowly as time went on. After the AOL merger, Turner broadcasting stations began to report to AOL in April of 2000 and Ted Turner ceased having day to day control of their operations. Shortly after, Turner began to divest himself of his Time Warner stock and now only owns a fraction of what he once had (he may have completely sold it off by now, not sure). Also in 2000, his marriage with Fonda ended, after she had become a born-again Christian. http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/stories/2003/01/27/daily38.html http://www.kenauletta.com/2001_04_23_thelosttycoon.htm But still, right wingers love to propagate the myth that Ted Turner and Hanoi Jane and the Communist party of America are writing the scripts at CNN..... If you think CNN is liberal, listen to Air America, then watch CNN. If you think it's the same, then you are deaf and blind.
Just so people aren't confused, Ted Turner still sits on the board of directors at AOL Time Warner. http://www.timewarner.com/senior_management/board_of_directors.adp Nice try libs.
Nice try jorge, I distinctly recall you being one of the people who I've undermined by illustrating your lack of knowledge about Time Warner. Looks like you've learned your lesson.
You're a bit out of the loop, aren't you, twhy? Turner and his ex are raising buffalo and exploring new implants, respectively. Read Sam's explanation. I thought most would know this stuff by now. And, for the record, I sure as hell wish Ted still owned CNN. It was a much better news network. Oh, and if you're slummin' here in the good old D&D, Mr. Turner, do me a favor... use some of your bulging pocketbook to defeat Bush for re-election. Thank you very much.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!! A hilarious attempt at escaping the shaming you just received! Sam gets caught with his pants down while attempting to explain Ted Turner's lack of influence at Time Warner. When it is brought to his attention that Ted still sits on the very influential board of directors at the company, he is SHAMED. Well Sam, I relish the opportunity to educate you. In fact, I have that opportunity nearly every single day! Ha! *Yet another* example of a liberal's distortion, EXPOSED for all to see! OWNED
