This offseason has been an intresting one. Just about every team in the NBA has changed. SOme for the good, others... not so good. I know some peoole might be worried that even thought the Rockets will have a good team next year, other teams like the Spurs and Heat are far more better than us. I beg to differ. Having played basketball at a college a few years ago, I know how important chemistry is. There have been countless examples of highly talented teams being unsuccessful because of lack of chemistry. I think thats the thing that wil happen with the Heat. The Heat have assembled a good team. The problem is that they all are ball hogs. Lets face it, Shaq only has another good 2 yrs left on him. The Heat will end up trading at least one of the players they aquired in the offseason by the trade deadline. The Spurs are going to be good again. However, he is not going to fit in with the Spurs. He doesn't play defense and he shoots a lot. These are things that Pop hates! What the Rockets have the MANY teams in the NBA don't have is chemistry. The know how each other work. Thats why the Rockets will have success next year. Yes, the addition of good players is a plus, but chemistry will be a huge factor.

Who are you referring to? Not so great to use a pronoun without a reference.. assuming it has to be Finley, Oberto, or NVE. The only player that fits is NVE...and with Finley in the mix, I can't imagine NVE is gonna get all that much pt backing up Parker and Ginobili (2 solid players). Especially with both of those guys improving and Finley being the primary backup at the 2.

And if your statement is about Finley, then I think you're just wrong..

With the squad of modest guys we have (people who want to win, not ballhogs), and a coach who really knows how to develop a "decent group" into a winning group, the Rockets are actually sitting really well now. We were horrendous in the first 20 games due to us having a completely entire team, but things changed and we had an awesome run. Now with only additions of head, swift and anderson, and the subtraction of...eh, weatherspoon and padgett, we'll be fine. I don't think our team chemistry is hurt at all.

I wonder what JVG does to these guys...Rudy seemed pretty lax back in the day, but JVG probably rips them a new one every day in practice.

How do you guys think JVG brings our team together?

Though I do not agree with the premise that the Spers will be negatively affected by either Finley or NVE, I do agree that chemistry will be what tells the tale of this season for the Rox.

Before we made the trades and got Sura back, our chemistry was all over the place. Defensively, we played very well and defense is what won us 6 out of the first 17 games last year. As we made the trades and worked guys like Sura, Wesley, and Barry into the lineup, our chemistry improved and we went on a 45-20 tear to end the season, even though Juwon went down.

This year, we have much the same squad and as such, I hope we can carry that chemistry into the beginning of the regular season and come out of the gates strong. With no significant losses (much as I liked Padgett, his loss is not "significant" to me) and two nice role players added, the core of our team has stayed intact and the Yao/TMac show was pretty impressive at the end of the regular season and in the playoffs.

I suspect that we will make a midseason trade for our expiring contracts, but with any luck, whoever we add will be a chemistry addition rather than a cancer. Chemistry is what won the Pistons a championship over the more talented (on paper) Laker team a couple of years ago and if we can develop anywhere close to that sort of chemistry, we could be up there with the Spers as the teams to beat in the west.

so we need to get rid of Mike James. He thinks he is better than Tmac. That's not good chemistry, my college prof calls it Civilization 101.

I agree with your point on chemisty, that is why I think the Rockets and Kings will be playing in the WCF. I feel like the Rockets and Kings improved there teams alot this off season. In the East the Heat have a good team, but are they better than the Pistons? Or Pacers? Or the team I think is a darkhorse out East: the Nets. A Rocket vs Heat final would be cool though. Jeff Van Gundy vs Stan Van Gundy, Yao vs Shaq, T-Mac Wade, Swift vs Walker, Deke vs Zo etc.

The title runs through SA, PERIOD! Dont get it twisted because a already strong team got stronger. A deep team got deeper. When Parker needs a blow, NVE will run the team smoothly if he's healthy. When parker loses control, NVE will step in and make it happen. In addition he's a big shot maker and a very good ft shooter. Finley will do the same. When Bowen needs a blow of isn't having success, Finley will come and do the job plus some. Chemistry is great, but you also need to have talent in this league. Shaq and Kobe won 3 rings without really liking each other. McHale and Bird did the same.

I disagree. No one is guareented the title. Anything can happen in a 7 game series. The Kings, Suns, Rockets, or even the Mavs could beat the Spurs.
