Link POSTED: 2:18 pm CDT September 18, 2005 Man, 92, Hits Second Vegas Jackpot LAS VEGAS -- What's better than winning a multi-million dollar jackpot? For one Las Vegas man, winning it twice. Elmer Sherwin hit the Megabucks jackpot in 1989 and did it again recently. Sherwin won more than $21.1 million this time, at the Cannery Hotel and Casino. In 1989, he won more than $4.6 million at a Megabucks machine at The Mirage. Sherwin is the first person in the 19-year history of the progressive slot machine system to strike it rich twice. Sherwin is 92 and said he's "always been lucky." He's a good saver, too -- he recently bought a new car from his 1989 winnings. As for his latest windfall, Sherwin said he plans to share it with his son and daughter-in-law and make a second donation to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts but doesn't know what else he wants. Since his first win, Sherwin has continued to play Megabucks once or twice a week hoping to becoming the game's first repeat winner. That now accomplished, Sherwin plans to limit his future play to video poker. Copyright 2005 by The Associated Press. All rights reserved. the funny thing about it is that the megabucks machines have the worst overall payback of any slots in vegas. But i guess if you're gonna go for it, go big, right?
