No. Never give your credit card for any "free subscriptions", and you'll be fine. They could ask you to resubscribe by giving a cc, which you aren't forced to do. The very most they can do is cancel the subscription midway. Since it's free, you don't have to give out your real name...

They usually get exclusive stories and screens before any other sources (online sites or other magazines). In recent months, EGM has had exclusives on God of War PSP, EndWar, Ratchet & Clank PS3, BioShock, Splinter Cell 5, and more. I think they have an exclusive in their next issue regarding new entries in the Soul Calibur franchise.
