the title of this thread is completely ridiculous....you're somehow holding the president responsible for the actions of a few protestors....venezuela is a democracy and not a dictatorship, which means the people are free to do what they want including protest

btw, the us should stop interferring in the internal affairs of venezuela and trying to topple the country's democratically elected leader

Hugo is the best thing that has happened to Venezuela. A guy who supports the poor, even though he is corrupt. We need more leaders around the world who actually give a $#it about the poor. There is enough in this world for every single person on this earth to live like a middle class family. Though its greed and power of individuals that makes this world like it is. I wish someday there arises a balance from those who like to give and those who like to take. Someday.

but then how do you know if you're better than someone else if we're all middle class? ;)

I'm looking for a new leftest utopia as much as any dreamer here but why is it always some tinhorn former colonel that seems to take up the mantle? The power in all democracies is wielded by those who can control the system but I'll believe more in Venezuala's socialist revolution the day I see Hugo Chavez leave office after an election and instead a coup or at a state funeral where his son is made the new Jefe.

again, way to deal with the issue and not attack me

the article in counterpunch was written by an academic

and the article in blackcommentator was written by two professors as well

obviously you didnt bother to look at any of them and see what they had to say, you would rather just attack me

Merely pointing out a contradiction. Whether or not the articles were written by academics, you've previously indicated scorn for sources that just 'googled.'

Hence when you don't confine yourself to said sources you're violating your own criteria. Yet another credibility gap springs up for you, my friend.

    first, i'm not your friend

second, i'm glad you verified my claim that you didnt look at the articles for me or else you would've noticed the 1st time that they were written by academics

third, you're assuming that i just "goggled" these sources, but i was aware of US duplicity and subversion in venezuela, thus, i was able to easily locate these articles instead of just doing a random search like you and hoping that an article that tells you what you want to hear or backs up your view appears

fourth, i have provided links to academic sources and book recommendations before and i'll provide a link to a documentary made by irish journalists right here and right now that documents the failed US sponsored coup against Chavez: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0363510/

last, please discuss the issues and stop attacking me

go and watch the documentary and you'll see the truth:

Hugo Chávez, surrounded by resolute supporters, makes a dramatic return to power on April 13, 2002 after the collapse of the first Latin American coup of the 21st century.

To quote Derrick Coleman - whoop dee damn doo, lol.

No, spanky - you went to verifiably biased sites and pulled some columns down that see the world as you do. That isn't 'going to the library and researching scholarly texts,' lol.

Sorry, your credibility is an issue. Your haughty manner and condescending verbage makes it so. Stop being an ass and it'll stop being an issue. As an aside I never took a position one way or the other on the attempted coup against Chavez. Although if its coup plotters that get your goat, so to speak, then you need to look again at your boy Chavez.

you dont know what i do, so stop assuming, but i guess thats what we should expect since all your posts are just baseless assumptions

i see you've also resorted to name-calling, which is the last refuge of a desparate foe, i wont stoop to your level

i never said hugo was my "boy," if you have a problem with the facts, dont take it out on me

also, i gave you a link to the documentary, go and watch it

What would be the purpose of watching the video - have I denied there was evidence linking the US to the coup attempt? You're shooting in the dark, my friend - lol. Interesting that you failed to address applying your standard of 'fairness' to Chavez, as he himself was a coup plotter. Rather, its not suprising. It hasn't taken you long to lose the credibility each poster comes onto the board with - even among the most tolerant people on this bbs (of which I don't claim to be among). Have a nice day, chump.

LOL, now I guess this means you better stop listening to Rush, and Hannity. Better stop watching Fox news, or reading Newsmax, the Washington Times, and the CrazyChickenhawkPrezisaDeserter.com Sites. Nor should you ever speak on ANYTHING political, since you are an OBVIOUS offender of your same said stupidity. Thats hypocricy at its most asininely r****ded.

Your SERIOUSLY going to claim bias? Everyone on the forum has bias. Thats what makes you a Lefty, Righty, or Independent. Its ludicrous of you, as the pot, to call the Kettle black.

OH and psst....its Verbiage. Not verbage. I dont think verbage is even a word.
