Why didnt Ward enter the draft? He seemed to have all the tools to make it in the NFL. Hell he could even punt the ball.
He was smart enough to play in the NBA. He wouldn't get killed by defensive ends, and linebackers, but get killed by PJ Brown. The money was guranteed, and quality of life after the game would be better.
Black QB's were not as prevalent back then and basically they were going to 'convert' him into a RB or Receiver but his chances of playing QB were not as high He stated if he didn't play QB he'd play basketball ALSO Basketball had guaranteed contracts and overall pays more I feel he had two motivations the 1st being the primary the second one was a nice consolation prize Rocket River
Charlie Ward was unbelievably good as a mobile, college quarterback. He was amazing to watch and was qb on a championship team. But there was no way that he was going to qb in a league of conventional drop back passers (his arm wasn't that great) and he'd have to play a pair of positions where people don't last long (rb or db). So hoops with its guaranteed money and less chance of getting ripped apart by guarantuans was the only way to go.
Yeah but can he make a proper entry pass to a center on the low block? If he can someone get Les on the phone... I have an idea.
