    Top NBA Coaches

I don't remember Gundy making any excuses last year, even with all the injuries!

Gosh I hope Phil Jackson NEVER wins another Championship; If he doesnt I pray maybe that fruit loop will go away and Kobe (the rapist) Bryant with him. :p

I do however agree and disagree with Charlie on his Van Gundy blurb(?.

He isnt on the Hot seat YET...but if he fails to win this year, he will not be back next year.....Too much talent on this team for excuses.

Excuses? WTF is he talking about... One of my fav things about JVG is he tells it like it is. Yao plain needs to be better at PnR defense. We shouldn't have lost all those games without Tmac. You could go on and on down that road, he doesn't make excuses.

He might be inhibiting this team by his insistance on ball control and no turnovers, but I don't think so, personally. I think we're best suited to good defense and half court ball, most of the time.

JVG's mouth is too big not to make excuses (and he does). Often it's his rather bizarre moods that prompt some bs, but I wouldn't want a coach that doesn't occasionally spin with or without intent. Riley and Parcells are masters at it and those are people JVG looks up to.

Still I'd rather have JVG than maybe 3 or 4 of these guys at this point in time and a 'C' grade is absurd.

Your point about JVG "possibly" inhibiting our team I think has merit, but I do believe he finally understands that the league has changed and I think he's changing with it now.

D'Antoni is a A- or A. He has done an awesome job and i admit it. He is the best offensive coach in the league!

JVG is where he should be. He hasnt done or proven anything in Houston so far.

This is his last year to do something.

As long as he stays stoubborn and cannot think outside the box, I dont expect him to fare much better.

I never wanted to hire Van Gundy, but have accepted him and support the team- so I support Van Gundy. Hell - If our coach was Derrick Coleman I would support him. I am a fan of the team.

Seriously- Van Gundy gets a free pass for last year's injuries. He deserves more credit and should be ranked higher than C. He will succeed now that he has talent to work with without the gray hair. He has shooting.

He is an elite coach- a tight defense with a half court game is a proven winner.

    I support Van Gundy.

    "Among the Elite —

Lawrence Frank: Always intense and never out-worked. Must exhibit more faith in his pass-screen-and-cut system and restrain from simply running isolation plays for Vince Carter in clutch situations.

Eddie Jordan: Nothing phony about him in any way. Like Frank, must remain true to his Princetonian offense. Is greatly handicapped, however, by Washington's lack of any effective big men. The Wizards are a donut team — they look good, but offer little nourishment. Plus there's that hole in the middle.

Eric Musselman: His relentless intensity wore out many of the less-intense Warriors. Must maintain his emphasis on defense, yet at the same time instill more discipline on offense.

Flip Saunders: Has the expertise and the vision. Can't let the veteran Pistons intimidate him.

Byron Scott: Removed from the glare and pressure of the New York metropolitan area, is showing marked signs of maturing as a coach. His arrogance is fading and his players believe in him.

Scott Skiles: Feisty, aggressive, and can be annoyingly overbearing. Has all the right ideas, but his act can wear thin if the Bulls don't win."

among the elite? doesn't that mean best of the best? either Rosen has a bad editor or he's just dumb or both.

I fail to see how 3 years of going to the lottery makes you a great coach..

Eddie Jordan? The following is the entire playbook for the Wizards:
Step 1: Get the ball to Arenas.
    Step 2: ???
    Step 3: Win game!

Too bad LBJ now owns Arenas.

So a head-coaching record of 75-89 makes for a good coach. Riiight....

Flip Saunders' vision led to the best 5-man unit getting man-handled by the Heat. I'm sure he's got great plans in store for Nazr Mohammed.

Chris Paul is the only reason the Hornets did anything last year. End of story.
