    Would anyone like to guess at how cr@ppy this off season would have been if D. Capers was still around? Another draft and off season of reaching for sub par talent, i.e.:

    * Babin
    * Buchanan
    * Hollins
    * T. Johnson

    With Kubiak at the helm...what a difference. Experienced highly regarded talent (some Pro Bowlers even):

    * Moulds
    * Cowart
    * Flanagan
    * Putzier
    * Kalu
    * etc.

    And we have not even started drafting yet. Talk about a complete turn around. If Capers had been here...I bet nothing would have happen to get us hopeful of next year.

    So far you have to be a big fan of Kubiak and his rebuilding methodology.

    I agree. I mentioned something about it in an earlier post....

    Ever since Kubiak came aboard, it seems like Charlie Casserly has become an average to maybe even slightly above - average GM(I know, I said it :eek: ). Kind of makes you wonder how much of the crappy decisions were Capers's moves....

    i'm starting to think the same thing. wasn't it mentioned some time ago that casserly was just selecting/getting the guys capers wanted?

    that makes a lot more sense....

    I asked that question at least three times.

    At least it seems to; Casserly's Redskins weren't so bad on the talent side or on the results end of things IIRC.

    Come on. Be honest. Most of the posters on here were praising the Buchanan aquisition big time this time last year.

    If those guys we just got turn out to be busts. I wonder if y'all will still be praising Kubiak & Casserly.

    Is this praise for Kubiak or blaming the past roster moves on Capers? Like Aceshigh said, we at least need to see how these guys pan out before blaming or praising.

    This has definitely been one of the best offseasons we've had, but I'm not about to let CC off the hook. Seems like everyone has been blamed except the one guy who was suppose to structure the franchise.

    Remember that Casserly hired Capers. Casserly had the final say on personel decisions. He said so himself. Of course he worked together with Capers and deferred to his wishes sometimes (like trading up to get Babin). So, no, Casserly didn't just select players that Capers wanted.

    Now that Kubiak is on board and was hired directly by the owner (not Casserly), Kubiak has the final say and Casserly is just a figurehead in the new Kubiak regime.

    exactly.

    CC is just as much to blame as Capers, if not more, for the crap that went on last season.

    Actually, I was livid about that.

    On the other hand, I don't know jack about running an NFL franchise, so I post more questions than opinions. In this instance, I'm not ready to rain praises on Casserly's head, it was just a question.

    It's true, but look what Buchanon was coming from.. we knew he had a down year and the Raiders really didn't want him anymore. We were praising it more in hopes that he would rediscover the talent he once showed.

    In the case of this year's acquisitions, they're not coming off complete crap. It'd be pretty tough for them to just fizzle completely like PB did

    I think we need to watch a complete season, before making comparisons.

    The first flag that flew on Buchanon was the VERY short list of people who have gotten over on Al Davis. Then the season bore it out.
    To Capers' credit, he did a good job of free agent acquisition at Carolina, when, after they got to the NFC title game and everyone later started getting old, he had no young guys to step into their shoes. THEN, he was the village idiot and got canned.
    This time with the Texans, he wanted to build a foundation but just couldn't judge new talent. And he trusted too many of his assistants who WERE idiots.
    Kubiak knows the fastest way to win and look good and he's on the right path to do it.

    Stop blaming Capers for Casserly's mess.
    Yes, Fagio wanted Babin, Casserly had to approved the deal.
    Casserly ran the draft. Capers didn't have that much input except he ran the 3-4 defense.

    This was validated by Casserly himself on TV and radio shows several times over the last 4 yrs. He said that he made the personnel decisions with coaches input. But he made the final decisions.

    Casserly assembled the scrubs that went 2-14

    I do believe Kubiak is now the top dog!

    2-14 also takes into account the injuries that we had.

    It is not quite as simple as you make it out to be. Coaches and scouts can provide input, but in Casstastrophes defense, he didn't coach and develop them. I'm sure you will see a few players that you might consider questionable picks from Cass break out this year.

    Trust me though, because I'm not a big fan of our GM. I believe that if we have a non-productive season Cass will be the scape goat and if Carr doesn't produce all hell will break loose.

    Here is my list I would like to see break out this year- Faggins, Babin, Lord, Morency, Anderson, Armstrong, Brown, Glenn, Peek, Wand, Weary, Polk, Ragone

    We had to pass on 9 starters off the Steeler's Super Bowl team to draft these guys.

    And any of the free agents Cass signed over the last 4 yrs. can break out this season also.

    I am really down on the talent assembled over the last 4 yrs.

    This has been the best offseason by far. Maybe Cass has seen the light or Kubiak is in control.

    On paper.

    I do agree though and can't help but feel optimism.
