It didn't say he was going to be a Rocket. Even if the Rockets have contacted him as the article says it quotes Oakley as saying he wants to go to a championship caliber team not a young ball club like ours. I would pass up on the guy.

He was the type of guy people mentioned when they wanted someone to protect Yao. If defense is all that he can do nowadays, then he is still better (defense) than Griffin and Mo.

I would sign him for a year and give him 8 to 10 minutes a game.

Oakley does try to get physical and play defense but he can't stop them anymore like the way he used to.

    Ditto!!

If you think that Rice or MoT are slow, then wait till you watch EVERYBODY that Oak guards blow by him on the baseline for either an easy finish or a flagrant foul by Oak!!

it's kind of scary that these sources keep reporting that JVG is contacting such old, slow and possibly costly PF's.

I'd rather have malick in there personally

As what, an assistant coach? I know it can't be as a player.

Oak's washed out. He's done nothing but being a cancer in the locker room the last two seasons with Chicago and Washington. I would pass on him.

Except knock Juakin Hawkins to his ass. Hit him so hard he was seeing double and missed both free throws, effectivly stopping a nice charge that the Rockets had going. I think we could use a little of that.

I Don't know that Oak is our man, but we need a tough guy somewhere. I just don't see Gabe Moneke being that person.

Just for the sake of argument that this is 'true', that JVG contacted Oak -- what does that say about what he thinks about EG and MoT?

Oak is as finished as he is ugly.

Get Oak -- Riley, or retirement. Not the Rox!

According to Oakley, it IS true. I asked him about it Saturday at a celebrity golf tournament. Oakley's response to Van Gundy was "call me in December".

I'm all for Van Gundy as coach.......

and after some time to cool down I'm even cool with Ewing as an assistant

but Van Gundy, Ewing, AND OAKLEY?? Hell No!! Oakley is a thug. We don't need any Rasheeds, Oakleys, or Rodmans around here. We have a tradition of class - this ain't the friggin BRICKS.

    OK, that's what Oakley said.

What does 'it' say about what JVG thinks about EG and MoT? Scary, I say.

I think it says that the Rockets could use an enforcer type, not for extended minutes but for effective minutes. They don't have anyone whose personality AND style of play fits the bill.
