I always think it's interesting to hear those two talk about the Rockets. Anyway, did anyone watch what they had to say after the kings game was over? I went to bed. Was there a Rockets recap? (Has anyone noticed that this is the first year that Charles will talk about the current Rockets? I think he didn't have anything nice to say about Steve and Cat. )Anyway, fill me in, yo. fromobile.-
Charles said that the win showed that a bad West team is still better than a good East team. He also said that the Rockets have 2 all-stars, so they should be better than they are. I agree with both statements, but then they aren't exactly groundbreaking analysis.
Its funney becuase last year when we had Steve and Cat Charles would b**** about how they dont know how to play the game right. Now that they are in Orlando he says they are one of the best back courts well at least were before Cat was shipped out. Their ANTI-ROX!
I like when Charles talks about championship level players...and what it takes to be one. That always makes me laugh a bit.
What was REAL funny was Charles b****ing about the All-Stars (this was real late ... well after the Kings game). When they showed Yao and McGrady as the top two vote-getters in the West, Charles went off... "That's just WRONG!!" Then Charles went on this rant about how the fans should not have a say in this at all ... that it is a popularity contest for them and it should be about who is having the best first half to the season. He and Kenny had their "picks" for who deserves it, and both had Amare at center. Charles just wailed on the fans. Then Ernie Johnson steps in and says, "But, in defense of the fans, Amare is a forward on the All-Star ballot, not a center. So who should they have picked instead of Yao Ming?" Pure silence. Charles looked like he was run over by a train by that statement.
he's funny. but he can't be taken too seriously. his commentary is very limited, to me. i often wonder if he's actually watching these games.
i would really like to know why they crap all over the rox. kenny and charles do have some good takes from time to time, but rarely about their former team. and yes, charles, the all-star game is a popularity contest that is played for the fans- get over it.
If they were 10 years younger Kenny and Charles are exactly what these Rox need. A steady PG and an aggresive PF
Didn't see Sir Charles complain when he got starts in all-star games that he didn't deserve, due to popularity. All star games are exhibitions, let the fans pick whoever they want. Pretty sure Magic made an all-star game after his retirement.
When asked, Kenny commented that he never thought Yao/McGrady combo would work b/c we don't have a legitimate PG that can make them better...He went on to say that of the guys that the rockets did have (Ward, Sura, Lue, Barry etc)...that we traded away the guy that fit the best (Lue)...HE LOST ALL CREDIBILITY WITH ME AT THAT POINT!. On a positive note: At one point in the night, one of them (I think Barkley) commented about how Bob Sura has turned his career around in the last year....kind of a back-handed complement, but a complement nonetheless.
LOL. Yea, I saw that. Then Kenny went on with one of his spells about how it, in his eyes, a player is defined as either a frontcourt or backcourt player. Whatever! It still doesn't change the fact that the all-star ballot lists Amare as a forward and not a center. Barkley always contradicts himself in some way or another. Like last night, he said that the Rockets were not a good team and no one is worried about them, but then said they would be a very dangerous team if they played hard every night. What?
Go ahead and rag on Charles and Kenny, Charles especially is easy to poke fun at. But as studio commentators go, "NBA on TNT" is consistantly the most entertaining that I've seen, in any sport, at any level. Charles, Kenny, and Ernie have such a good chemistry. And I think it's cool that they are former Rockets.
IT'S ON NBATV AS WE SPEAK!! (well, not anymore) Also, I think it will be repeated at 1 this afternoon on NBATV as well. Just giving you guys the heads up They recap the TNT post-game shows in the morning after the games. IT comes on usually at 10 in the morning (I am watching it now actually) Basically, Kenny Smith does not feel like the Rockets are good enough, he feels like they are right at where their team should be: around .500 Charles disagreed, he thinks if Yao and T-MAc play like this every night (with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove) and Yao plays aggressive like he did tonight, this team should be a lot better than .500 Funny part was Charles saying that he loved the ketchup/mustard uniforms and saying that he wished those were the unis when he played for the Rox, not those "hideous" striped jerseys. Also, Charles said that he thinks T-Mac and Yao are nice guys, and that he has never seen a great player who was a nice guy, and that great players always play with a chip on their shoulders. The best part, as Clutch has mentioned above, was when Ernie Johnson told Charles and Kenny that Amare was not a real center, and that he is a forward, and if they had to pick a center to start in place of Yao, who would it be? SILENCE IT WAS! --Tiger
