CD reports that they are talking to a lot of people. He can not name any names because they are not supposed to. They want to do this the right way and in the right order.

Dammnit, continue to sit on your hands, geez, I swear CD, you have done some spectacular things, but I feel something good is slipping away here....

chill out... no one can sign anything until Friday. Would you like to be like the Bucks and have signed the Great Bobby Simmons to a 47 million dollar contract after one decent year on a bad team

Exactly. What has gone on around the league that makes them left with scraps?

Only Dalembert has signed out of the top big men and only a handful of teams have even done anything outside of signing thier drafted rookies.

The Rockets said they will make a big impact in free agency and that July will be their month. Let's see where we stand on August 1st, or better yet going onto training camp, before we start complaining about them not making any moves or improving the team.

Do you expect the Rockets to issue a press release of all the free agents they have or going to talked to along with their rankings and how much they hope to get them with plus their max limit on each player. It's like if they don't list plan A to Z3 then CD is just sitting on his hands doing nothing.

Hopefully, the Rockets can get the athletic Power Forward they are sorely needing. I hope you enthusiasm is correct that CD wanted to tell us something about the news.

Eithe way, let's not forget that with Juwan Howard the Rockets went on a tear. And during their 40 point 7th game loss to Dallas, Howard wasn't even a pipe dream.

This is a perfect opportunity to get a young athletic Power Forward in Swift. But, if he doesn't sign, it isn't the end of the season.

With all that said, COME ON STROMILE SWIFT, SIGN WITH HOUSTON ROCKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE ANTICIPATION IS TOO MUCH TO BARE!!!!!!!

Not sure what this exactly means in terms of Swift, but I'm doubting more and more that we'll end up w/ Swift. Sounds like CD has grown frustrated w/ dealing with Memphis, it also said that in another thread that the Grizz are very tentative.

I also read somewhere that Swift wants 9M, which in that case, I would say screw him, I'd be willing to pay him 7 or 8M max.

I asked for pressure and here it is. Kudos to CD. Swift has to know that we have other options and now its public.
The question is potentially simplified: swift can stop trying to push for a SNT. Which is good because we don't want to take on Memphis' crapola and kill our cap situation for years to come.

He either signs with us or goes for the money.

Does anyone else think CD is lying out his teeth when he says we’re talking to a lot of free agents right now? To me it sounds like tactics to get Swift to make up his mind and/or for negotiating.

Well, I hope he isn't lying about talking to a lot of FAs, because he better not be putting all his eggs in one basket.

It does sound like CD is saying Swift has drifted away a little. We all know Swift isn't going to sign for our MLE, it just isn't good enough money, especially when he knows he can get more. This basically leaves our only chance at a S&T for which we've heard more than once that the Grizz are tentative and now CD has said we that aren't going that route. So if Swift isn't taking the MLE and we aren't signing and trading, what does that leave us with? :(

In Swift's defense, he told everyone straight up when he came to Houston that it was about the money. It's difficult to wait, but he's not jerking us around as the teams that are interested in him are still in flux.

I think if Seattle wants him and is willing to pay him, he's theirs. The Nets could give him $10 mil. more and a sixth year with a S&T, but it would have to be worked out. It sounds like CD is settling on MLE, reasonable S&T or bust, which as you point out, is appropriate.

This kinda reminds me of last season when we had our chances at Brent Barry and Derek Fisher, but money got in the way. We had a long period of no action and suddenly ended up w/ Sura/Ward.

In my opinion I think it's pretty clear we made the right decision last offseason with Sura instead of Fisher/B. Barry when you consider the players production relative to their contract.

Absolutely. I was just comparing how we were all excited about picking up atleast 1 or 2 "big name" guys and how we ended up with 2 under the radar guys at the end.

    Nothing but a guess....

... but it could be that CD knows that their chances with Swift are dwindling, but he's saying that they're not going the sign-and-trade route right now because he's still holding out hope for the MLE. His hesitation in the audio (thanks mogrod!) suggested he was picking his words carefully, and I don't think he wanted to abandon or disrespect the MLE option.

It may just all be hinging on Portland at the moment. It appears that NJ's first choice is Shareef, but they can't work out an arrangement with Portland. If Portland takes less, or NJ is bluffing and ultimately ponies up a first round pick (or whatever is necessary to satisfy the Blazers), that could leave Memphis and Stromile out in the cold as far as an easy, no-salary-absorbing swap.

What you would hope to create is not a scenario where it's, "Who is willing to take an offer as low as the MLE?", but rather have guys fight to take it because our team situation is that attractive. Once "higher-salary" options are removed, Houston should be in high demand.

I would hate to think it all boils down to us perhaps losing our chance at Swift because egomaniac Rod Thorn wont give up a 1st round pick to get his 1st option PF in SAR and then signs his 2nd option in Swift....the option we earmarked all along as our 1st option! ugh!
