They played Chance's Yao Ming song at the Compaq Center last night... It was so cool to see the kids a row over from me with a squinted, questionable look on their face as the chorus broke in and they weren't quite sure what they were hearing. After they realized it WAS saying "Yao Ming" they were laughing and having a good time!

Chance, did the Rockets approach you about using your song or what?

It sounded great over the Compaq Center PA system!

    :D

Yes I have met with The Rockets regarding the Yao Song. I still have to swap out some of the lyrics before they play it en totale. It truly warms my heart to hear that the kids liked it. It's so weird about my songs...children love virtually every song I do. I am talking to the point where it is weird. I do a lot of songs with, um, questionable content but my 5 and two year old kids love the way they go so I have gone back to the studio and lay down clean lyrics for them. And the kids love them.

I can't wait to listen to the music at a game. I remember the first time I heard Air Bull at Compaq--dude...it was cool. What a rush!!!

Congratulations, I am sure that will be a thrill for you to hear at a game.

Since you pour your heart into these songs, I would like to know something. You typically choose a fan favorite to make a song for, so stats are not that important. The coaching staff will not give expectations for YM.

Do you have certain expectations for the individuals you produce these songs for? And what does YM need to do this year to make you feel this was time well spent?

Has the Moochie song ever been played at Compaq?

I had forgotten about the Chewbacca part of the Yao Ming song, lol.

i just downloaded the song, that's really cool! It must be awesome to write something and then have it be part of his introduction.

That's awesome Chance, congrats! And props to the Rockets for recognizing the popularity it generated here when Chance put it out and their willingness to use it.

Like I said before on another thread,as one of the many CCNetters not in Houston,I'd like to see you guys at the arena start using the chorus as a chant even when they aren't playing the song over the PA. You know, like when Yao comes into a game,or during timeouts, or when he does something great on the court, etc. I'd love to be watching a game on TV or listening on the radio and hearing the crowd chanting the chorus over the announcers' broadcast. Maybe this sounds cheesy but,for those of us who are out of town and can't be there,it'd almost be like we are there because of the song!

    Thanks again Chance!

    That was soooooo cool.

Having songs like this is something they do alot of in the UK. soccer teams have so many songs like this and the fans sing them at games. IT would be awesome if we could do something like that at the games, to get the fans more into it.

I love it this was perfect and keep it up!

In response to your various inquiries:

I didn't hear the Moochie song. I was hurt and disappointed.

Nor did I. They had the song but I don't believe they played it. 610 played it a whole bunch, they actually still play it when the subject matter is fitting.

Having songs like this is something they do alot of in the UK. soccer teams have so many songs like this and the fans sing them at games. IT would be awesome if we could do something like that at the games, to get the fans more into it.

The soccer Hooligan song was (obviously) the inspiration for this song. I thought that that chorus was so addictive and perfect. I received my inspiration as soon as the Rockets got the lottery ball. I knew they'd get Yao Ming and I knew it would be a big deal.

Now if you could just get them to play BuckFutter when the opponents are introduced...

I agree. They should play Buckfutter at every conceivable second. And they should play Damned Receipt everytime the Rockets Power Dancers hit the floor in contribution to their former places of employment.

I'd like to see you guys at the arena start using the chorus as a chant even when they aren't playing the song over the PA. You know, like when Yao comes into a game,or during timeouts, or when he does something great on the court, etc.

That is exactly what I want to happen!

It must be awesome to write something and then have it be part of his introduction.

    It is.

Do you have certain expectations for the individuals you produce these songs for?[/ b]

When I do songs for athletes it is either because I really like them (Bullard, Moochie, The Texans) or I just want to be funny (Daryl Ward, Jose Lima). I don't know what exactly it was about Bull and Mooch that made me do a song. I always liked Bull and still do. He and Moochie both brought an intangible 'something' to the table every night. they were not starters but had a great presence and enthusiasm. They were not highlight reel guys but the fans loved them. I have written songs about my other favorite athletes (Stevie, Bagwell, Major Applewhite) but never produced them because they seemed too forced and not as fun. I also never produced a song for the "superstars" because it would seem like I was simply after a buck. I'm not. I am in the oil business and love my job. I do this stuff for fun on the occasional weekend. That being said I do intend to get something, I don't know what, but something for my efforts when warranted. I feel like the Yao Ming Song warrants something and The Rockets have inspecifically said I would be rewarded. I trust them.

And what does YM need to do this year to make you feel this was time well spent?

Yao has already done it. He has bridged a race gap that I, as a white dude, never really knew was there. I have met some cool asians that I never would have met. And these cats are into their hoops so I love them already. It also brought a level of excitemetn to Houston that is awesome. I am not worried about stats and as long as he suits up I am happy.

Thanks everyone for the support, questions, interest, and compliments.

    Chance,

Just thought I'd let you know that your song was played in the Dallas area today on The Ticket. I didn't hear it, but a co-worker came by knowing I was a Rockets nut and said "have you heard that Yao Ming" song? I said, "yeah, if it's the one that I'm thinking of."

He said The Ticket stated something like "this is a song you won't be able to get out of your head for the rest of the day". Damn, do I second that... I've been humming and singing it ever since I first heard it.

Anyway, just letting you know ... it's spreading. :D

Thanks for the heads up Doc. It's spreading like wildfire!

Oh and I don't want to let out any secrets or anything but you might want to keep your eyes on Sportscenter because there is a rumor that a certain addictive song about a certain 7 and a half foot center might be aired during Yao highlights....not that this busy little bee has been spreading his pollen around or anything
