Arkansas has had a brutal schedule in recent weeks, having played Texas, Alabama, Florida, Auburn, and Georgia. Matt Jones has had difficulty with these top defenses, having faced the likes of Channing Crowder, Derrick Johnson, and David Pollack.
The trade was T-Mac for SF and trading SF's ass back to Orlando for T-Mac. And then they wanted to do it again....
Matt knew he was about to be interrupted by their national giveaway thing. When the giveaway is announced, it interrupts all programming whether the on-air folks know it or not. In this case, Matt knew it was coming and decided to try and be funny by saying there would be a trade KNOWING that he would be interrupted in mid-sentence by the giveaway announcement. It wasn't funny.
You people need to quit living and dieing with everything you hear on the radio...aren't we all here to cheer on our teams and have a good time?? It's not life or death people..
You need to quit thinking that we live and die with everything you say on the radio. We are all here to cheer on our teams and have a good time. It was a question, I dont think he had his razor blades ready.
Anger Management Air Marshal: "Calm down!" Dave: "I am calm. What is it with you people?" Air Marshal: "You people?" Dave: "Oh now wait a minute, I don't mean you people I mean you people." Air Marshal: "Sir, I will not tolerate any racist behavior on the plane. This is a very difficult time for our country." Dave: "I know that. I'm not a racist. I just want to watch the movie." Air Marshal: "I'm only going to say this one more time sir. Calm down!" Dave: "I'm calm!" Air Marshal: "(shock him with a stun gun.)"
Uh, isn't living and dying with everything you hear on the radio what pays your salary? If we didn't care, we wouldn't listen.
If you have facts to speak out on the radio, fine. If you're going to be speaking B.S. on the radio to get everyone to tune in, screw you then.
Matt. Shh. [Damage Control Mode] Occasionally our jocks feel more comfortable with their audience than the audience feels with them. This can often lead to jokes that do not go over so well. I have received a couple emails from people that were bothered by this moment of jocular banter. I also received some emails that found the stunt funny. Ultimately, I trust Matt's intuition with his show. He's really good at what he does. As far as people living and breathing this stuff I side with the listener here but understand Jackson's response. He should have been flattered that people were moved enough by his stunt to post about it here in this marvelous, wonderful forum instead he reacted with a quick, "jeez guys it was just a joke" type of response. Nobody can question Matt's love for Houston sports or Houston sports fans so I tend to believe him. [/Damage Control Mode]
January 1, 2005. BTW - you can catch all of their programming at espnradio.com and foxsportsradio.com. It's streaming already.
Eh, I'm not going anywhere. I like 610 and like MattJ. I got really excited last week when I saw him on Cold Pizza. And they've got a kickass whatever your title is. His response just ticked me off.
Hell, I NEVER know what I'm talking about, always give inaccurate information and sometimes I don't even get my jokes. Why all the love for MattJ? Say what you want but I've had "dinner" with this encyclopedia and there is no weakness in his game, his jokes need some work, but not his game.
True professionalism at its finest. Chance, This is the problem I have with SR610. Almost everyone of the hosts, host being the key word in that sentence, have some sort of smugness, schtick, or chip on their shoulder. You can't call in without being belittled or snubbed on your topic. The last time I called into a show was with Rich and Charlie. They abruptly went off and cut off on a caller and true diehard fan of the Astros who believed they were still going to make the playoffs. When I called in to remind them that the guy had a great point and he shouldn't be cut off, I was abruptly cut off. Water under the bridge, but an example nonetheless. If Matt doesn't see that he pissed off alot of fans who tune in to hear news or impending news, not to be his pawns in a big joke. On this BBS, big stories and trades have been broken before it was news, so rumors of a big trade are taken seriously when it comes from a "credible" source. Matt being in the position he is in would likely be taken more seriously than say an average poster on this BBS like myself. Its really discouraging having to listen to radio hosts who act so goddamned smug all the time. I tune in only to get the update or hear what I missed out on. I really don't want to hear what celebrity is celebrating a birthday, or what a particular host thinks about juvenile things like Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff, what movie was great, if I wanted that I would go to an entertainment or gossip station, I tune into SR610 to hear about sports. Maybe you should think about pulling out a dictionary and showing the definition to some of the hosts, so they know that they should be somewhat accomodating to someone who calls in, whether they agree with them or have an opinion that differs from their own. Matt J, Seriously, you're a clone with a show. From your Rome-like 10-20 second pauses of dead air that cost your station money, or the really bad impression of crumbling up emails and throwing them away after you've read them. You should really come up with some better material. In all honesty, you're not strong enough to have a show on your own. When you and Jeremy started out together, you made up for each other's weaknesses. He was the fact guy, not overly serious, but not the clown you act like. I liken you to the kid on a little league team, can't play real well, you stick him in left field and pray that no one hits to him. Thats why you're on the night shift. When I did listen to your show after you were on your own, it was just mind-numbing after a while to have to hear someone act like Jim Rome, hell truth be told, I really can't stand Rome all that much anymore. I'm not trying to be an ass, I've met you in person and we've had a beer together at BW3, but seriously coming on here and calling people out, saying that they live and die by your every word is a little egomaniacal. You most likely will not respond per Chance asking you to stay quiet about this, but I hope you listen to each and everyone of the comments from everyone who posted in this thread, but then again like all the other hosts, you work for SR610, listening isn't one of your strong suits.
We live and die with our f-ing TEAM Matt, not with you or your damn radio station. You don't get that, do you? You are merely a conduit for information. When that conduit announces that our team just made a major trade, we get worked up. It's not something we can immediately assume to be a joke. It is very freaking unprofessional. Seriously. Do you care about how the Rockets might have felt about having a frenzy set off when one of the people on their flagship radio station announces a major trade? Let's say you're a Houston Rocket. Let's say you're Mo-T or whoever, and now a 610 sports personality just announced that your team has a major trade in the works. You freak b/c you're just hearing it for the first time on the radio, not through your team. Your name is being bandied about. Charlie even mentioned that "one media source says a trade is imminent." Well, even when it turns out to be a lame joke, do you think that the player(s) & the team can just laugh it off real quick. Those "Happy Bday" things suck - we agree, but 610 already has a fine comedian in AB. Stick to your day - errr, night - job Matt.
