I was there tonight...great atmosphere, great game. I'll be in Manchester next week, too. I am very optimistic now as Schweinsteiger and Robben and Gomez (who played a few minutes today) will be back for the next match (and Rooney might be out). With Man U having to attack and Bayern having two of the world's fastest players to counter in Ribery and Robben - look out, Man U!
Atmosphere looked electric and the stadium looked awesome in all red, must've been a good time. Thanks for sharing
One goal down going to Old Trafford... don't think Man U will be too worried with that away goal in the bag. Hardly 'revenge' until Bayern knock them out.
SJC I'm happy for you Bayern won. I have a question what do the general Bayern fan think of Van Gaal and what do you think of Van Gaal. and in general what do the germans soccer fans think of Elia?
Thanks arno_ed. Bayern fans think van Gaal is a little bit arrogant and he tends to have problems with the big stars (Luca Toni, Ribéry, etc.). But at the same time, he is a great coach for young talents (I believe he was the one who let Xavi and Iniesta play at Barca when they were really young, and he is doing the same with Badstuber and Mueller at Bayern) and is not shy to play them over established players. I think that in the beginning, people did not really like him, but obviously, with more success, people are warming up to him. He has a very clear philosophy of how to play and now that the players are buying into it, it is working well. His German is still very bad, Robben has only been in Germany for a short time and his German is already much better (and van Bommel's is perfect, he is a great leader and very well-liked within the club). Elia - he is a little bit under the radar still but there are rumors that Bayern is interested in him. I have watched him a bit and he is really fast...kind of like Robben. But he currently seems to have problems with the coach in Hamburg and it is not clear if that is only the coach's fault. I like him and wouldn't mind if Bayern got him.
Rooney will almost certainly miss the game. COmbined with Van Gaal's terriffic observation today that Man U's top scorer is Rooney and their second top scorer is..... THE OTHER TEAM (own goals), I think Bayern have a fantastic chance. Throw in a hopefully healthy Robben and Schweinsteiger (two EXTREMELY underrated players) and Man U will have their hands full trying to avoid conceding a goal and holding posession up front. Should be a great game.
