    Hey guys!

I have an ESPN Insider account and Chad Ford just broke down
how he thinks the seedings will turn out in the West.

It won't let me copy and paste, so I'll just type what he wrote about the Rockets...
He has us last by the way as the #8 seed

    8.HOUSTON ROCKETS

    Projected Record 46-36
    Current Record 32-23 (currently #7)

Jeff Van Gundy put the keys out of Steve Francis' hands and put them in Yao's. The results were shaky early on but lately, Van Gundy looks pretty wise. Yao is starting to explode. In Feb. , he's averaging 20.8 ppg and 8.1 rpg with 58% shooting from the field. Francis has really had to tone down his game to make it happen, but lately the results have been pretty impressive.
I still think the Rockets are actually the weakest team of the lot.
(this ticked me off when he wrote this !!), but with a big
7-game lead over the Trailblazers, they should be able to fight them off for the final playoff spot. It would take a 19-8 run by the Blazers this year to get by the Rockets if they win 46 games this year.

 --I don't think Chad Ford hates us or anything, but he sure doesn't have any faith in us....

well i mean we could finish anywhere from 5th to 8th right? and we have a tough schedule in front of us. so his prediction is reasonable. as long as we make the playoffs, i'm happy. if it's against Minny, hey we've already proven we can beat them. spurs another story though.

I don't care what seed we are as long as we play the Timberwolves in the first round!! :D

From a comparative standpoint this is how we look against the top teams:

Minnesota: We blew them out once, they blew us out once. I have faith that this is a team we could beat.

Sacramento: This is a team I DON'T want to face in the playoffs. They have scorched us for years and will be even better with webber back

San Antonio: This is another team I DON'T want to face in the playoffs. They've smoked us lately.

LA Lakers: We've had their number lately (4-1) the last two years I believe, but during the playoffs is a different story.
Of course it would be storybook stuff for Yao and us to knock LA out with Malone and Payton!! How Ironic!

Dallas: This team has had our number during the regular season lately, but I think as the games slow in the Playoffs, they will be easier to beat. Hopefully us concentrating on just them will allow us to better understand and beat their zone.

    Summary:

Don't Want to See: Sacramento/San Antonio

    Wouldn't Mind: LA Lakers/ Dallas

    Best Shot Against: Minnesota Timberwolves

you're right, san antonio has that playoff swagger. i wouldn't really mind the kings either, i think their window has passed, and despite them playing well... i have this feeling that they will collapse in the playoffs.

    "weakest of the lot"?!?!?!?

you've got to be kidding. maybe cuz we're inconsistent, but most experts would agree that if the rockets get it going, especially come playoff time, we're easily one of the scariest teams around.

assuming denver, memphis, and us are all playing on all cylinders, we're easily the best of the three.

i mean, the rockets have shown what they can do, it's just a matter of doing it on a consistent basis.

a mighty BOOO-urns to chad ford.

Actually, I would almost rather us meetup with San Antonio instead of Dallas. We're at least competitive it seems in most of the games with the Spurs. I agree though that LA and Minnesota are our best chances to actually win the series.

The teams I really don't want to see coming playoff time,
LA Lakers -- That's assume Shaq & Malone & Co will be healthy
Dallas Mavs -- People have to understand that the Mavs play a much fast paced game than the Rockets like to see; we don't have anyone who can control the tempo of the game.

The team I don't mind to see,
    Spurs -- yes, they have beaten us many time, but we were always in the game. When we get better offensively, we'll be fine;

    Wolves -- they are not playoff tested, just like us. So this will be a wild series;

Kings -- Kings are very fragile coming of playoff time. Divac & Webber are just one fall away from missing the rest of the season.

I tell ya, Dallas, Sacramento, and San Antonio are really trembling at the possibility of facing the Rockets in the playoffs...

Um, when he uses the word "weakest," that's what bothers me.

Denver is probably the weakest. It won't be the same story next year, because Denver will draw more interest, and the Rockets will have to improve (re: trade) to stay alive in the West.

Ford isn't too bright. Maybe he should have been a comedian. But he is one of the few guys at ESPN who gives Yao decent pub.

the teams i really don't wanna see in the first round:

Dallas - they play a much more fast-paced game than we do, and we've consistently had a very difficult time adjusting to such. saying the playoffs automatically slows down play is a stretch; it just depends on which team can force the pace of the game, and dallas has shown that they can force us to their pace.

SA - they just do the little things we cant (or wont) do. for whatever reason, let's say.... overall intelligence, they beat us by doing the things we should be doing. we play the same slow paced, half-court style but their role players actually know their role night-in and night-out. however, if francis figures out his role (not saying he's a role player mind you), SA becomes very beatable.

but i swear if i see parker just running by francis on every play tonight, i'll probably be calling for francis' head! francis looked like he wasn't even attempting to play defense last time they played.

everyone else - Min, Sac, LaL:

i have total confidence we can beat these teams. we've had success against all three and have shown we can matchup well with them. i dont buy into this lakers "wait til they're all healthy" crap. i'm still confident we can beat em. same with the other two. bring em on, that's what i say.

considering that this is the same source (ESPN) that considers it a let down that we lost to Memphis, it is sure strange that they now say Memphis is higher than the Rox.

Of course EPSN also had the conflicting reports that Jordon would be invovled in the new NBA team - followed by another reportted that said sources confirmed Jordon will NOT be invovled in the new NBA team (or something like that)

Of course we are the weakest of the lot; but he would not have been able to say so had we not let West and Brown take Posey. Also the loss of EG did not help. Memphis is a better team and I expect them to finish ahead of us. You know I could not have made that statement if Posey was on our team.

What did you say Codell? :D

For the mathematically challenged amongst us here is today's lesson in playoff math: If you're the eighth playoff seed AND there are ONLY eight teams making the playoffs from your conference, then by definition, you ARE the weakest team of the lot.
