Warrick Frank (NYC): Which all-star is most likely to be playing for another team next year: Kobe Bryant, Shaq, Iverson, Paul Pierce, K-Mart, Ray Allen, Steve Francis, or T-Mac? Chad Ford: 1. Kobe 2. Francis 3. Iverson. I don't think Pierce, Allen or T-Mac are going anywhere. Martin is a tough call. Shaq? I'm staying out of this . . . my inbox is filled with Laker fan hate mail right - any thoughts? - i would hate to see stevie go
it would be very interesting to see your right,,,,but i highly doubt we would get a fair or "equal" trade for him
SF for Elton Brand. Rockets need a stud power forward. Clippers need a flashy star to sell tickets. Both players were ROY. Both players are near the same age. Both players have similar contracts. The only kicker is if KB signs with them. Then you can kiss this trade goodbye. YM EB Veteran PG (similar to Eric Snow) ------------ = Dynasty Raven
Might be more like Steve Francis to Philly, AI to the Clippers and Brand to Houston but you guys better get a PG in the draft or with your MLE. You guys will be picking in the 20's so Chris Duhon should be available at that point. However, I would trade my 2004, 2006, and 2008 1st rounders to get Jameer Nelson or Ben Gordon. Then offer Brent Barry the full MLE to handle the PG transition until the youngster is ready. You guys would be locked and loaded then... PG Barry, Duhon SG Mobely, Piatowski SF Jackson, Nachbar PF Brand, Taylor C Ming, Cato Might want to trade a future 1st to get another pick this year for a backup SG/SF unless you can get on off the trash heap for the minimum.
If we really traded Stevie and got Brand, then the next step would be sending Cato to an east team, where he would start, and where there are a number of good PGs, such as Hinrich in Chicago. I bet Chicago would trade Hinrich for Cato.
If .... again IF we trade francis for brand (one of the few trades I dont mind), then we might as well trade MO T + CATO + CAT, for a spot up SG, and a decent PG...
Ouch! Well I don't see how you guys can survive trading SF for Brand w/o a starting or backup PG in place, no 1st round pick, and a reluctance to spend money.
IMHO, Francis will be in the Eastern Conference next year. 2/3rds of this board will be complaining that we didn't get enough value for him. Half of the 2/3rds will change their opinion of the trade 2 months into the 2004-05 season. By the end of the 2004-05 season (barring injury), only the SOF's will be have a recollection of Francis. We're not getting an All Star player...more like role players and players with upside. I'm expecting something like a deal with TOR for Alvin Williams, Lamond Murray and Chris Bosh. Or CHI's Hinrich, ERobb and a re-signed Fizer. Or something with the Heat taking on the large contract of either Eddie Jones or Brian Grant and getting a Dwayne Wade or Caron Butler plus Rasual Butler re-signed and a MIA protected 1st. The Pierce or Brand for Francis trades will never happen IMO. It's going to be about surrounding Yao with shooters. Trust me, when (not if) Francis goes, there will be an extreme amount of grumbling.
I'm praying for that Hinrich deal with the bulls..He's awesome for Yao. Not an athletic player but with good bball iq and shooting skills...
heck . . . .We could have trade Steve for Brand before the Break they both BYC right? Max Contracts that came in the same year so and even swap should not be hard Never happen . . clipps keeping brand and Magette seems to be doing well. If Steve is traded think EAST I wonder who we will blame when we don't win a championship next year. . . .probably cuttino Then . . uhm . . .. . MO!! yea he been here a while Rocket River
I think the next target would be CD, then Cat (if he has a mediocre year), then Les. I also believe that if Steve is traded, we will not get back equal value.
GATER, interesting analysis, I dont disagree that that might happen, but as I have said in the past, if we are going to trade Francis I would rather trade him for a sure thing than another "player with potential." Looks like I will be in that 2/3 group of complainers that said we didnt get enough. Elton Brand would be tremendous but I dont see that happening. Ray Allen would be tremendous and does have a chance considering word is the Sonics are shopping him. You could try to work a 3-way trade with an eastern conference team to send a low post player to Seattle perhaps? You want to surround Yao with shooters, go after one that might be available in Ray Allen! Just find the Sonics a low post player from a 3rd team that would take on Francis. GATER, of all the trades you mention, I dont think the Houston media or the fans are going to like ANY of those because as you mention, there isnt a solid known commodity in any of them, although I know there are a lot of Hinrich fans out there. I dont like the idea of trading Francis for a slew of lesser quality players. I dont think those trades work in the NBA. It is about QUALITY, not QUANTITY. I just dont feel like we would be getting enough value for Francis. Of the trades you have up there, talentwise Wade+Grant looks like the best to me but Grant's contract is such a mess it makes it less appealing. As far as I am concerned, Ray Allen fits this team's needs. As a compliment to Yao's game he is a solid match!
Disagree with your take here. If we make the playoffs, why would you trade away your all-star to get back young players? and role players? You r forgetting the notion that role players can be added w/ small trades, off season moves etc. For our case, we have decent trade commodities: Cato, Mo, Cat, TE, etc. Dont forget the TE. We will use it on a major weakness. And why do u assume surrounding Yao w/ shooters will make us a contender? I mean even Shaq has Kobe! I'm not sure if he could even win a championship by himself, decent players around him, and a bunch of shooters. Dont forget, shooters slump (ex. Piatowski). U cant undervalue stars. And Steve is still one. Albeit one in a major slump. Nevertheless, I still think Steve's value is high. Forgot those R.Allan, Randolph, AI trade ideas from insiders? That alone tells me there is some value for Steve. Bottom line, Yao is not yet ready to lead by himself. Even if he is, how far will he get w/ role players shooters? Even if we get a Chris Bosh, or Hinrich? When will be contenders again? if that? There is too much talent in the West. You almost need 2 to 3 stars in your team to excel. We might be playoff material in the situation u suggest, but not championship material....not for a long shot....
Hinrich has become the Bulls PG of the future. Whey would they trade him for an overpaid big man? You guys need a reality check, bad.
