Is there any possibility that the interviewer can start the conversation with something like..."Mike...do you have any idea how much buzz there is in the city about your return to the Rockets?" It never hurts to massage someones' ego.
I imagine James would then say sth like this... I can't make people love me," (Mike) James said. "I can't make people like me. Even Jesus Christ and all the healing he was doing on every single day, they still wanted to persecute him and kill him. And so, who am I? I can't even pull a hangnail out of my daughter's finger let alone heal somebody. Sounds like they just want him so we dont get him. How in the world are they gonna play Terry, Harris AND James? That's just ridiculous.
I think part of Dallas' strategy is to keep us from doing a sign and trade with Toronto. If Toronto was thinking about doing a sign and trade and Dallas offers more in a sign and trade deal, then all Toronto has to deal is tell the Rockets they have to match or better Dallas' offer. This weakens us either way. And Dallas could go ahead and throw a draft pick at Toronto and work a different deal for say Eric Williams or somebody like that and also work into the deal that an agreement that Toronto doesn't work a sign and trade with us. I think it is going to be difficult to snag James in a S&T with Toronto without giving up quite a bit. Hopefully, we can use the TE to acquire something else if we have to tie up the MLE on James. Dallas knows we are going to be a serious threat. I honestly think they fear us more than San Antonio. There is just no answer for Yao. If Shaq can get their 3 bigs to foul out, Yao will do them one worse, he'll foul them out and hit all the free throws to boot.
If Mike wants to sign with Houston, it doesn't matter who Dallas offers. He has to agree to the destination in order to facilitate a SnT.
Only thing is, James has to agree to the SnT. Raps just can't make James sign anything they want him to since that'll be his new contract for the next 3-5 years. James doesn't want to play for Dallas, he's not going there. The only reason the Raps would like to SnT James is to get something of value in return for James being a UFA. This also does a service to James as he gets fair value signing with teams that are cap-strapped like us. The $4.2 TE is an option as well, Raps don't have to take on a player this way if they don't want, James gets better yearly raises as well with the TE. If James is worrying about PT in Houston, wait'll he gets to Dallas with that backcourt!
James is our Only Hope at this point- the way we planned this- and If I were Dallas- I will make this and try and to make it difficult. I dont trust any Professional Sports guy who says " I do this for the love of the game or the city etc" Those are great things to say- but we need to stop fooling around and close this deal, if we are serious.

initial thoughts: this seems like an interview with a guy who has every intention of playing here this season. seems like he has no hard feelings whatsoever also.
