I wouldn't be surprised if a western conference teams makes a lopsided looking deal in the Celtics favor before the deadline. A high 2nd rd pick to the Celtics for cash for example. Could have been an under the table deal. Celtics, you sign Miles, screw the Blazers, we give you a pick.
I can't believe Miles is still only 26 years old. It seemed like it was an eternity ago when he was a toothpick originally drafted by the Clippers. Then he was in Van Wilder which was hella long ago too. And he's been out of the league for 3 years and yet he's only 26. This is a good pickup by Boston. Low risk decent reward.
I think Miles still has to play at least 10 games before the Blazers pick up the bill...lets see if he can hold it together that long...
if noone had picked up Miles, then his full salary wouldn't have counted against the Blazers cap, because it would have been considered an injury exception. now that he has signed with a team, if he plays 10 games, then his full contract counts against their cap figure.
So what if mile's contract counts against them. They're a young team with lots of cheap players that have lots of talent. I agree with rocketsregle. I do not feel sorry for them AT ALL.
I think they were planning on being players in the free agent market next season...all of their talent (for the most part) is still on their rookie contracts... with that said I didn't realize miles was only making 9mil a year...even with his contract counting against the cap they still have less than 25M on the books next year. that is insanse... regardless of whether Miles counts or not, they will still be able to add a Max level player on to their roster...I suddenly feel nauseous
Something tells me once the Blazers start playing well, nobody is going to feel very sorry for them. Heck, they might even be the Rockets first round opponent in the playoffs this year.
good catch. but even if they picked up every one of those options they are still at roughly 54M. and I can't see the last 4 names you mentioned necessarilly being shoe-ins to have their options picked up...those 4 salaries are worth 15M alone. it's too early to tell what they plan on doing, but regardless they are still in position to pick up a Max level talent.
Not quite. That figure doesn't include team options and capholds. If they cut Diogu and Rodriguez from next season's salary they have around $12M to spend. If the next season's cap is around $61M. This season's cap is $58.68M. Without Miles's salary, the Blazers could have around $21M to spend.
He could easily walk out on the court 10 times at the end of a decided game for the world champions. The rest of the time could be spent tossing the guys water bottles.
It doesn't because their owner is Paul Allen, who is probably worth more than the entire NBA several times. A few million dollars out of his pocket for a one-time expense is like one of us buying a candy bar.
It's a non-guaranteed contract, so the Celtics have zero risk here. Good move by them. Also, he is suspended for the first 10 games for violating the anti-drug program.
