If tinman can do Rockets hero appreciation on GARM, then heros of other teams are fair game for NBA dish.

Anyhow, I was reminded recently by a post on truehoop.com as to how Kevin McHale is vastly underrated. He played under the shadow of Larry Bird, and after his stint in Minny, is now mostly remembered as a bad GM rather than one of the greats. Back in the mid/late 90s, Peter Vescey was asked if Karl Malone was the best PF ever, Vescey said "No, it's Kevin McHale."

McHale was the only player to ever average 60% from the field and 80% from the line.

He was probably best 6th Man ever, coming off the bench for almost 20 points a night in the mid 80s.

And there is arguably no one with his variety of (mostly ugly but effective) post moves. Maybe the moves weren't ugly, just his face.

And passing on his knowlege to the next generation:

Bu-but-but .... Kevin McHale is an idiot, and he is single-handedly responsible for the entire miserable existence of the Timberwolves franchise.

    Cue 15-year-old newspaper articles, stat!

Ability to score 20+ from the bench is rarity nowadays.
    That's why I respect him,but Rockets are in my heart,always No.1!

And he may have even gifted the Celts a championship with the KG deal ;)

nah, I really think even his GM stint may have gone ridiculously different if not for the Joe Smith scandal. The lack of 1st rounders caused a domino effect imo.

And as a player.. changed the post game. Huge piece of their titles. Played at a high level into old age. Lots of great things.. up and under!

God, I hated him when he played for the Celtics. He was so damn good and they already had Bird, The Chief, Maxwell, DJ, and on and on. (and on!) One of the truly great players in NBA history. A game changer.

McHale was a great player, but is a dumb manager, sort of like Isiah Thomas and Michael Jordan. It just tells you players who are smart on the court aren't necessarily smart off the court.

BTW, please don't quote Vescey's opinions. He has no credibility here, even though in this case he's right that McHale was better than Malone.

And yeah, he continued to contribute to the Celtics organization by trading KG to them. :D

Dude had the longest arms I have ever seen. Definitely gave him a huge edge (along with some crafty post moves).
