My phone got submerged in water for roughly 20 seconds, and I dried it out and figured it would work again in a few days. When it didn't I took it to a cell repair place that said they can fix phones 90% of the time, but they just called and said it was ruined.

This is a 3 month old HTC Amaze. Any ideas on how I can salvage this? I really don't want to lose $600.

Same thing just happened, to me on my HTC Sensation. I sent it in to HTC, they said it would be at most $185. Just called today, somehow they are repairing it for free.

I may have been extremely lucky, but it's worth a shot.

And you probably shouldn't have taken it to anyone since they will open the phone and remove the "void" sticker. Hopefully it's still there and they will fix it, if not you are SOL.

First thing you do is take out the battery immediately. Then put it in a bag of rice and wait a few days.

I did this. It didn't help.

I had insurance for the past 4-5 years. When my phone was stolen last year, and it was going to cost $120 to replace I figured I was wasting $60 bucks per year on it.

Take the whole phone apart, including SD card, SIM card, battery, case, etc. Dry it off as well as you can. Take a vacuum and vacuum as much water out as you can (make sure you create good suction by sealing off the edges).

DO NOT use a blow dryer. Heat will destroy the phone, and blowing air into it will push water further into your phone.

Place all contents of your phone into a bag of rice. Make sure you rotate the phone to allow the water to seep out in different ways.

Rinse and repeat every few hours for few days.

I did all that for my phone which I accidentally took into the pool. It was submerged for about a minute. Turned it on after a few days and it worked, although the touch sensor was backwards (as in hitting the right side of the phone triggered the left side). Everything worked except the camera.

A month later, I turned my phone off. When I turned it back on, the touch sensor worked correctly again. All I lost was the camera.

Bag of rice works. You just gotta do it correctly, and do not rush into turning your phone on no matter how tempting it is. That is the most important thing. Patience.

My phone was drenched with beer awhile back and planted it in a bag of rice overnight. That did the trick.

When I talked to the cell phone shop they said they vacuumed, dried it, etc. Then they said they tried to switch out something and it went completely dead. :(

Bowl of white rice for 2 days. If that doesn't work, it's done.

Yeah, that didn't work. I'm just shocked that a little water made the entire thing essentially worthless, not to mention pics, etc.

    Damn.

Yeah it sucks. Water damage is pretty destructive to any electronics. Especially on phones that are so small, yet so expensive.

I called HTC. They said I can send it in to see what repairs would be. Said it should be $80, but could be $150 if it is a screen issue.

Had this same mishap. My three-week-old smartphone was submerged for about 15 minutes when it fell to the bottom of a very deep water tank.

I asked a friend in the O&G industry to use his company's vacuum chambers for getting all the water out internally, and then I left the device turned off for about a month. When I finally tested the phone, everything except the vibrate feature worked. Since resale value for a used, water-damaged phone plummets, I gave it away as a gift even thought it worked and because my firm gave me a replacement model.

If money is an issue and you have GSM through your provider, ask a friend if they have an old phone lying around. Pop in your SIM card and use it until your wet phone is thoroughly dried.
