im thinking about upgrading my tmobile phone to a smartphone, dont gotta be a top of the line model. Only problem is i noticed every freaking nice phone requires a data or internet connection service contract for 2 yrs. I have to admit, i dont ever use internet on my cell phone, so question is, is there any way to get a hold of a nice cell phone without having to get the internet service?
well first thing is, your question is a bit contradictory.... you want to upgrade to a smart phone, but does not want internet most of the 'app'lications on a smartphone requires internet, what you're using now is called 2g, smartphones require 3g, and 3g requires data plan t-mobile is running this thing right now where you can get data plan for $10/month(only 200mb) ... and because it's the valentine's day weekend, many phones are $0 on contract your alternative would be to purchase a low to mid range 'smartphone' which will cost you somewhere between $150 to $300 ... you simply slide your sim card and you're good to go, but the catch is, t-mobile may contact you and advise that they're aware of your new 'smartphone' and will force you to purchase a data plan and even an 'upgrade' fee (i had to call tmobile and use a few small words for them to void the upgrade fee)
thanks for clarifying. i guess i can live with 10 bucks a month, but definitely not the $30 these tmobile sales reps told me about. I didnt know most apps on 3g and 4g phones require internet, that explains the requirement to sign up data plan for smartphones. And I thought it's a just profit gimmick.
Go for it. That's an awesome phone, and if you're going with Sprint, you're not gonna get anything better.
Have you seen the Sprint Echo? I don't know if it's just all gimick or not, but it's a pretty cool looking phone. I know nothing about it.
virgin mobile has a decent (not the latest or greatest) android 2.2 LG Optimus phone for $150. Best part is that their beyond the talk plan is pretty awesome. $25/month gets you unlimited text, data, and 300min/month. $40/month plan bumps the plan to 1200min/month without any contract. VM uses the sprint network. http://www.virginmobileusa.com/cell-phone-plans/beyond-talk-plans.jsp I'm seriously considering this right now. The data plans on other carriers are just so expensive compared to this.
I just purchased two Evo's and so far I'm really digging the android os. I actually paid $122.50 per phone before tax. I will also try to get my activation fee waived as well. Any good sites to upload ringtones or even wallpapers?
This, ditch T-mobile, they're crappy. the 3g on virgin isn't what you're used to on Sprint (1X vs EVDO) but ANYTHING is better than TMobile and Cricket. My friend has that Optimus, it's a nice phone. He uses the $25 dollar plan. So he saves ALOTT of money. My advice, go with Sprint contract, or Virgin Mobile if you want a decent phone , decent service, and decent internet, at a decent price.
upload ringstones or wallpapers? there's an app for that lol. first off, if you put music on your first, long click it and you will be prompted to select as ringtone. Wallpapers, checkout Flikie
I purchased an unlocked Samsung Nexus S. I don't have a data plan since I'm surrounded by open wireless networks throughout the day in addition to WiFi at home and at the office. Your best option would be to buy a device without a plan.
music on your phone* you might also want to check out Gtunes to download music (yes, it's illegal but this is something an iphone can't do unless its jailbroken) You can also download Torrents off of Android. PM for that. DO NOT install ANY task killer. Especially if you're running Android 2.2 + For customization of your phone, you might want to check into Launcher PRO, or ADWEx Launcher.
Take it like this, considering Sprint made a HUGGEEE deal about it, it's nothing special. It looks like a Nintendo DS, the processor is just decent, it runs Android 2.2 and not 2.3, it's not even 4g capable. I'd pass on this. Looks nice though lol
