I have debated this with myself as well as seen other debate about it too. I have two ceiling fans in my house, living room and kitchen areas. Each fan has a switch on it that can make it change directions from counter-clockwise to clockwise and vice versa. Question is, does the direction of the fan matter? I have heard that it doesn't but then I think, why is there a feature on the fan that will change the direction if it doesn't matter. The one reasonable thing that I have heard is that you should have your fan set one way for colder conditions and the other way for warmer. Is this true and if not what is the damn point of switching the direction?

I didn't read the links. I thought that one was for winter and one was for summer. One direction pushes air down and one sucks it up. Was I right?
Warm air rises, cold air sinks. Theoretically, both directions should mix the air in a room about the same. When it is blowing down on you, you feel the effect more, which is good in the summer when it is hot, but is not desirable during the cool months, when you are trying to heat the place. If you reverse the fan in the cool months and run it on the slowest speed, it should mix the air, warming the temperature at floor level.
no offense, LP, but with your track record in this forum I was anticipating a desperate yet entertaining narrative about a ceiling fan somehow being installed upside down.
