He also said he is overwhelmed by the response for the job. Almost 60 calls from people representing people, etc. He can't get back to everyone.
In a nutshell... 610-What generally do you discuss? CD-What we are trying to do is find whats best for this young team. The fit for the team is the most major thing we are looking at. 610-Doesnt seem you need to sell the job to anyone? Is it more a personnel fit than a team coach fit? CD-The intrest in this job is highly coveted. Im shocked in the amount of calls I received. Selling this job is pretty much sold. They love the talent. They love the city. They love the owner. Anyone knows Les is trying to win. 610-Would you be suprised if you didnt have your man within a week or 10 days? CD-We do not have a top draft pick. We are trying to get the right guy, that has been the goal from the start. 610-Most consider Brown the most accomplished coach available. CD-I was really appreciative how fast he met us. That really impressed me and showed the sign of how much he was intrested. All 3 of those guys have good coaching ability. 610-For Les this is his first coach hiring process. CD-It is enjoyable to meet all the personalities and talk basketball. Getting the right guy is the formost in our mind. 610-You mentioned this is a coveted position. It seems to us this would be the most desireable spot for a coach to land, but all coaches have other options. Do the Rockets view this a a competition. CD-Most Definately, they are looking for the same thing we are, a good fit. 610-Do you feel you have #1,2 & 3 identified. CD-We are jsut taking it day by day. 610-do you know how many people are intrested. CD-I have no idea. Ive never seem a job search spring this much attention. I wasnt ready for this. Not since I went to China have I had this much attention. The China trip kinda got me ready for it. I can not get to all my calls. 610-What about still current assistant coaches CD-If they new guy wants them thats fine. If they need to go their own way we will help them too. 610-What about Yao Mings work load this offseason CD-I talked to him a lot before he left. I want him to keep working on his upper body strength and his moves. I got him some of those things for his hands to squeeze. His practice with the Chinese team for their games has begun. I hope he only has to practice once a day. Its monitored. I trust him, he will overdue everythign we said. 610-Just dont offer him a Coke and a Smile! CD-I read that and put the paper down and said thats him! 610-Did you see the 2nd half of the game last night? Do you think the Mavs have a chance? CD-Is Dirk going to be available. Its goign to be intresting. They won the big one. Now we have to see if they can win at home. Its good for Basketball. 610-Thanks CD CD-Good to be with you.
I find it baffling that Carroll Dawson can take something as exciting and interesting as the insider details of this coaching search, and make me fall asleep from pure boredom. I got nothing from the interview except that CD likes the attention from all the phone calls...
Now, ron, be fair. What exactly do you expect him to say? "Oh, hell, Larry Brown is packing his bags right now." All he can do is talk in vague generalities. That is just the way it is.
I enjoyed it - it hadly boring. Goosshh I don't know how you reason sometimes. When one uses diplomacy - people like Ron413 call it boring talk.
Maybe I had the volume down to low on the radio dial. Anyways, is it even possible for Larry Brown to be our new coach without CD giving up most of his current job responsibilities? Fegwu, forgive me. I just wanted some newsworthy scoop from CD, but I can wait
Thanks for the recap. How did you do it? You memorize everything or you took it down while you listened to him. Good to know that lot of people are interested in Rockets coaching position, I hope les and CD can find the right personnel. I read from Chinese web site that Yao follows the Rocket's strength trainning program in the NT. He asked the head coach if he should follow NT's trainning schedule or he could use the Rocket's designed for him. The head coach told him go ahead to use the Rockt's, and he was pleased that Yao Ming asked him first.
CD is awful... He was suppose to say "Yes we have offered the job to Larry Brown and it's up to him, We will offer the job to Paul Silas also and which one gives me the call back thats the one for the job... Oh yeah I almost forgot we are trying our hardest to trade Glen Rice...We will have a coach by next week hopefully Larry takes the job...We will reviel our new unis June 6 at noon at a rockets party hosted by Calvin Murphey... Mario Elie will be an assisant coach for this team no matter the coach.. Now thats what should happened! come on CD get some excitement in your life
