Hey, guys. My band - orange is in - finally got our CD's back. They look and sound great. The CD's are already on sale at Cactus Music and at Soundwaves. If any of you want to buy a copy and are near Cactus, it would really help us out if you bought it there. It is $10 no matter where you go, so no price gouging. Our CD release party is Saturday, January 28 at Rudyard's with Arthur Yoria and SkyBlue72. We'll also being playing on the Fox Morning show Friday, January 27. I'll remind everyone before then. I'm sure you all want to hear clips. No problem. They will be up on our MySpace site - http://www.myspace.com/orangeisin - soon, but I'm not sure if they are working yet, so here are clips of two of the songs in mp3 format online. Feel free to give them a listen: Dividing All We Are Run Towards the Warmth of the Sun Feel free to comment. It doesn't bother me if you like it or don't like it. If there is one thing I've learned over the years, it is that tastes vary widely and this BBS is proof positive of that. If you do like it and want a copy, like I said, Cactus would help us. If you aren't in Houston and want a copy, we'll have them available through OutboundMusic.com and CDBaby.com in a week or so. Thanks!
Congrats Jeff. My band just regrouped after a few year hiatus since our singer moved and we're just looking to get gigs but hopefully someday we'll get a CD out.
Congrats Jeff!!! I got to listen to the master CD about a month ago and its sounded GREAT. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy. I recomend it to all of you guys.
Not what I expected -- to me, the subject matter and earnestness of "Dividing All We Are" doesn't really seem to fit on an album entitled "Another Lame Semi-Tragedy" (hope I got that right -- too tired to double-check). The songs are good, but not my cup of tea -- I hope lots of people buy the album, though.
i like the music. the singer's voice isn't really to my tastes, though vocals mixed up front is a pet peeve of mine.
Thanks for the comments, guys. I really appreciate the "not my cup of tea, but..." stuff. Given the tastes of most of you guys on here, I really didn't expect very many of you to be all that into it. But, I do appreciate the comments.
I rather like the two clips you posted Jeff. It's different from most of what I listen to, but that's a good thing. Change is good. Nice work, and congratulations on the CD release. Since I'm in Dallas, I'll pick one up online when they are available.
Not bad. Parts of it give me a Weakerthans/Decemberists vibe. My main problem, though, is the singer's voice. For one thing I don't care for some of his delivery/articulation/enunciation...but also (for me) his vocal style doesn't always seem to fit the music. By that I mean the music is very sweet and melodic but his voice can get gravelly and he sometimes puts extra "umph" into it. So - again, for me - I have a little trouble coming to terms with that when listening. Often, though, I just need an adjustment period for someone's voice and I can end up really liking it. Does Cactus give you a larger percentage of each sale or something? I'll pick up a copy.
Well, I gave you probably the two most pop songs on the CD. There's a lot more rock on there than these, paticularly the first which does have a Weakerthens vibe. But, I definitely understand. George's voice can be an acquired taste depending on the song. Most of our stuff is much more rock than these, but these were the first two on the CD. Cactus doesn't give us more $$$ at all. It's just that they are the best indie store in town and the more we sell there, the more likely they are willing to stock it. When you can't really sell at Best Buy or Target or whatever, you want to make sure the stores that do sell it want to keep selling it.
the first song reminded me a bit of a band called the floating men, the second, particulary the vocal, a bit like alejandro escovedo. i don't have a problem with the singer's voice as much as i do with the lyrics. the music in these songs is basically a backdrop to the narrative, which is weaker than the writing in the music i was reminded of. it is very polished and maybe a bit to safe. i would have liked to here more interaction between the musicians and the narrative. anywho, i'll buy it and give it a more thorough listen when it's available to out-of-towners.
Hey Jeff... I actually enjoyed both of them a lot more than I thought I would. Dividing All We Are - Not much bad to say about this one. I liked it a lot. I do get a little annoyed when singers emphasize the "American-ness" of their accents, but I guess it's probably because I listen to a lot of Brit-Pop. Run Towards The Warmth Of The Sun - Up until the chorus, I couldn't help but snicker a little bit. George's style seems like it's somewhere in-between Bruce Springsteen and David Lee Roth (it's the way he sings his "E's" I think... I'm sure he'll be happy to hear that ) He seems to have the perfect "rock voice" for the "On and on and on" part, though. But yeah, that's kind of my only beef with the singing. I don't know if it's by design or not, but it seems like the singer is unwilling to bring it down in the lighter part of the songs. (he clearly can at times based on the first track) Is this available for mail order? I won't be in Houston for a while, but I liked enough to want to hear the rest.
I listened to Dividing All We Are on my super tiny mono work cpu speaker. I thought it sounded like Eye In The Sky by Alan Parsons Project.
Nice sound Jeff. The band sounds excellent. Dividing All We Are: The way the singer draws out the words to make them fit each line is bothersome (to me) Run Towards The Warmth Of The Sun: Sounds just like The Outfield, especially the Guitar. Much better song. Can't wait to hear the rest of it.
