Bad Contracts: Matt Maloney Kelvin Cato Moochie Norris Mo Taylor Bad Deals: Signing Scottie Pippen Signing Brent Price Losing Sam Cassell Signing Tony Massenberg Signing Shadon Anderson Signing Glen Rice Bad Draft Picks: Jason Collier and Dan Langhi in 2000 Bryce Drew in 1998 Michael Dickerson in 1998 Mirsad Turkcan in 1998 Pass on Rashard Lewis in 1998 Serge Zwikker in 1997 Rodrick Rhodes in 1997 But in his defense, he's done good aswell! Francis draft pick trade in1999 Mobley draft pick in 1998 Griffin draft pick last year Oscar Torres signing Kenny Thomas pick in 1999 Unleashing Olajuwon Help......I'm sure there is more!!!!
I have a couple of disagreements I believe we signed him for only a couple million per year which was a bargan. He didn't become as good as they expected but it didn't hurt us because we signed him for so little I don't think that Dickerson was a bad draft pick for where we selected him. He was injured last year and when he is healthy he is a decent SG. I would have rather had Lewis though. OK, now... How much does anybody really expect to get out of a second round pick?? We got Barkley though.
These two are a little unfair. Sam wasn't worth the max at the time, and the Barkley deal did what it was supposed to do (get the Rox past Seattle) Michael Dickerson is still around, and playing at an average-to-above level when healthy. I also think Othella Harrington needs to be included on the "plus" side of that column as well.
It does not matter about all those old signings and bad deals. We need CD to make a solid decision with the #1 pick. He can't mess this up.
Oh yeah, losing othella to gain a steve francis was a bad move. You have to give up something to get something
Were you complaing the day after the draft that they didnt take him? Alot more teams passed on him than us. On one could have forseen the suscess he would have in the NBA.
Originally quoted by BRANMan: YES! I was major ticked off. Couldn't believe it. And so were a lot of people, including this BBS. (I was just lurking, then) Houston told his family they would pick him with one of their 3 picks, and then didn't. It was quite embarrassing. He was in the green room (or whatever they call it), all by himself, into the second round. I was OK about Dickerson, not so happy with Drew, but Turckan? I expected us to use one of the last 2 picks on Lewis. Biggest mistake ever by this franchise. People were saying that if he turned out, we could sign him later, and let someone else develop him, since he was so young. But he got too good too fast... yeah, well, do you think LA would develop Kobe, and then let someone else sign him? (I'm not saying Lewis is Kobe...) I don't think Houston ever thought he'd turn out this well. Our loss. I hope we CAN somehow get him this summer, especially, if we take Ming. I just don't see how...
First if you hadn't drafted Dickerson you might very well not have had Francis now ... I belive the Vancouver brain (?) trust wanted to reunite Dickerson and Bibby ... Second Dickerson has been a nice player up until last year when he was injured ...
