The Warriors are sold that Curry is the real deal. He looks good but he does need to have the ball in his hands to develope. That's clearly not going to happen with Ellis playing along side him. The Celtics probably will not take this trade because of Chemistry. Rondo is pretty good PG with the ball in his hands and by making this trade, you're going to take it right out of his hands. Link
I'm not huge on Ellis being a first option, but if i'm Boston I may make this trade if it's out there. Having vets like Garnett and Pierce keeping Ellis in line could really make Boston that much more dangerous
I can see that as well... I just think you'll hurt Rondo by making this trade. Ellis loves to attack the defense which requires the ball in his hands. The Celtics needs Ellis to be a true "SG" and he's a very streaky shooter.... What I do like about them making this trade is they are getting young talent in. Once KG and Pierce give it up, the C's are going to struggle badly. They don't have enough young talent to pick up the pieces... I'm glad I'm not the one that would have to make this decision.
There is risk but that's a deal the Celts might have to do if given the opportunity. Of course they will deny wanting to move anyone by the trade deadline. Ellis gives them a chance to succeed if KG and PP are ailing because Ray Allen can no longer step up. Allen's shaky performance in the playoffs makes him a prime candidate to be traded. I don't know what more they could expect to get him in a trade. I have to admit having Rondo and Ellis as a starting backcourt may not work. But if it did, watch out! Ellis can also play very good defense when he wants to.
A lot of people forget that he can play defense if he really wants to. He played great one game against B. Roy this year. He gave Roy the fits with his speed and quick hands.
Get it done Ainge. Ray has been terrible on defense and history has shown that any team playing the right defense can shut him down in the playoffs (see Orlando using JJ Redick to stop him).
Ellis could play SG nearly all the time with that front line that Boston has. It's not like Ray Allen is a big (or strong) SG who plays tough defense so the drop off due to Ellis' size wouldn't be as much as people think. Actually, Rondo and Ellis could switch on defense and have Rondo guard the other team's SG. The Celtics' success still relies on health but if they got Ellis and stayed healthy they would be a literal buzz saw to the rest of the league.
Allen provides the space for the others to operate with his outside shooting. Ellis, while he's a stud, has 31 three pointers all year....Short term not sure if it helps Boston...
Why would the Warriors want Ray Allen? Isn't he a bit old for a team that isn't competing for a championship?
Obviously Golden St. would not be making this trade because they want Ray Allen as a player. Golden St. gave Monta Ellis a nice contract and then he went out and had the moped accident which he tried to cover up by lying about it. Since then the Warriors have been trying to trade him and are still upset about it. He doesn't want to be there either.
If I'm not mistaken they've rejected the notion of bringing Tracy in. So they don't want him. No Anthony Randolph....
What Boston needs is Allen, not Ellis. Look at the matchups in a possible playoff scenario for Boston SG Orlando- Carter Cavaliers- West Atlanta- Johnson Indiana- Granger Toronto- DeRozan Miami- Quentin Richardson I think Ellis matches up terrible against these guys; all of them can play post up maybe except West... Also, Boston needs a guy who can come off of screens and launch a quick shot; Ellis is more of a penetrater and a player who creates for himself. No need to screw up what is already right for Boston
If they did that deal Boston would almost have to start House or acquire someone like Roger Mason and bring in Ellis off the bench. What does GSW want? An expiring, or they actually covet Allen for some reason? Can't the Celtics just sign and traded Marbury or Cassell to match if that's the case?
