Playoff Teams - West
1 - Utah
2 - Portland
3 - Dallas
4 - Vancouver
5 - Houston
6 - LA Lakers
7 - San Antonio
8 - Sacramento

Playoff Teams - East
1 - Philly
2 - New Jersey
3 - Toronto
4 - New York
5 - Boston
6 - Milwaukee
7 - Washington
8 - Detroit

Finals
New Jersey vs. Portland
Portland in 6.

MVP - Stephon Marbury, Nets

6th Man - Jim Jackson(if he comes off the bench), Spurs

Defensive POY - Kevin Garnett, Grizzlies

Biggest Suprise(Positive) - Houston's Small-Ball works.

Biggest Suprise(Negative) - Vancouver's Star-studded line-up exits playoffs earlier than most expect.

If there are any categories I missed, please feel free to add on.

Defensive POY - Mutumbo, Sixers

Most Improved Player - Marion, Sixers

Something tells me Cat's experiment will work with Stockton at the PG and that's why I predict good things for that team.

I'm setting my expectations low for my team...

I'll probably update my predictions after some preseason games.

So nobody thinks that Seattle can make the playoffs this season, eh? Ok, ok, fine. I will just have to prove all you naysayers wrong! [IMG]

I don't think my team will fall that much. Considering the current lineup(Missing Camby) finished 19-2.

And my top 3 McGrady, Brand, and Brandon will only get better.

Add in a older Dickerson, Thomas, and Wally I think I am in title contention.

Not to mention my replacement at center produced 7, 4 in 15 minutes a game.

I'll hope to prove everyone wrong.

Why don't you guys make predictions?

Huh?

I wanted to add the Grizz and the Kings to this years playoffs, so that means 2 teams had to bite the bullet.

Just to add in this was the standings last season:

Eastern
1 Bucks 58-24 (Central Division Winner)
2 Sixers 55-27 (Atlantic Division Winner)
3 Raptors 57-25 (Central)
4 Pacers 49-33 (Central - No GM)
5 Knicks 45-37 (Atlantic - No GM) New GM: Johny Rocket
6 Nets 42-40 (Atlantic) New GM: CriscoKidd
7 Wizards 37-45 (Atlantic)
8 Pistons 35-47 (Central)

Cavs 30-52 (Central - No GM) New GM this year: PSJ
Celtics 30-52 (Atlantic - No GM) New GM this year: Puedlfor
Hornets 28-54 (Central - No GM)
Heat 23-59 (Atlantic - No GM)
Magic 16-66 (Atlantic - No GM)
Bulls 13-69 (Central - No GM)
Hawks 10-72 (Central - No GM)

Western
1 Blazers 78-4 (Pacific Division Winner)
2 Mavs 76-6 (Midwest Division Winner)
3 Jazz 72-10 (Midwest)
4 Lakers 62-20 (Pacific)
5 Twolves 62-20 (Midwest)
6 Spurs 60-22 (Midwest)
7 Sonics 58-24 (Pacific)
8 Rockets 54-28 (Midwest)

Kings 46-36 (Pacific)
Grizzlies 36-46 (Midwest)
Warriors 16-66 (Pacific)
Clippers 15-67 (Pacific)
Suns 14-68 (Pacific)
Nuggets 12-70 (Midwest)

I will come with my prediction later when we know if any other new GMs join and the draft is finalized - and maybe even get the preseason going too.

What I would like to happen now is that new GMs draft 2 players from the pool after the regular draft is finished (and release any scrub back to the pool). Then any team picked from get to chose back players in the same order and amount they where picked from in the draft. Pacers lost 3 players, Bulls 2 etc. and they need players back to play the season. If a new GM have taken these teams they chose, if not The Cat chose the players back to the no-GM teams. (This is my suggestion - it is not decided that this will happen) If any new GM joins after this they pick 2 players from all the no-GM teams and releases scrubs back to these teams.

WEST

1 Portland |Pacific Division Champion|
2 Minnesota |Midwest Division Champion|
3 Seattle
4 Utah
5 Dallas
6 Houston
7 Los Angeles Lakers
8 San Antonio

The west is of course loaded. But suprises here will be plenty! Dallas made a mistake getting Malone and therefore will drop. Malone is a one man show. In Utah, that kind of player was fine, but between him, kidd, and finley in Dallas, that team will self-destruct becasue of too many players wanting to be the scorer. Portland could also faulter this year but I still like them for the best record in the west because the team is basically intact. You guys are also not giving seattle enough credit. They had the best off-season trades IMO, adding more defense to an already good defense team. Snow is a good defender and will off-set the loss of payton. Mutombo is the best defensive player in the game, and they just added byron russell a scoring SF, so I can totally see them moving up in the Pacific to challenge Portland for the division title.

EAST

1 Toronto |Central Division Champion|
2 Washington |Atlantic Division Champion|
3 Milwaukee
4 New Jersey
5 Philadelphia
6 Boston
7 Detroit
8 New York

A couple of things. First I like Washington a lot this season. oneal is going to be large for that team. They were also the hotest team in the playoffs, knocking off Philadelphia, New Jersey (who beat Toronto) and taking Milwaukee to seven games before losing in the conference finals. Toronto will finally edge out Milwaukee this year for the conference title in the central. I think the surprise team this year could be Detroit if they can get their front court straightened out. I really did not like their draft since Mo Taylor is too soft and they were really in dire need of an enforcer and not a scorer.

After looking at last seasons standing, I don't think Iverson will make up 18 games in the West for the Grizz. I also didn't realize how good minnesota was last season.

New Prediction for the West

Playoff Teams - West
1 - Portland
2 - Houston
3 - Dallas
4 - Utah
5 - San Antonio
6 - Minnesota
7 - Lakers
8 - Sacramento

I just don't see Seattle being that good this season. They don't have any standouts on offense with the exception of Eddie Jones. I can see how he's planning on winning with defense, but he also needs someone other than Eddie Jones putting it into the hoop. Russell isn't a dynamic scorer either.

BTW despite my 4 seed I'm giving my team, I still believe my team will win it all. My team definitely won't fall too far from the 72-10 record of last season. If you look at my roster, it's basically a combination of Mavs and Jazz players from last season, the Mavs 76-6, the Jazz 72-10. I don't see how my team will fall that far from where they were last season.

Then again, this is a sim, so I'll wait to talk serious smack till after the preseason.

I'll start doing my prediction. Here is my outtakes for the Western race this season so far:

Western

1. Jazz (3. 72-10) (Midwest Champion)
Jazz gave up Jim Jackson (#13) and Jason Williams (#33) to the draft and picked up Toni Kukoc (#16). The 2nd rounder (#34) was traded for Kenny Anderson and a 2nd rounder next year. They also traded Karl Malone and Donyell Marshall for Anthony McDyess, Darius Miles, Shawn Bradley and a conditional pick. They had a good team last year and should expect to be good for upcoming seasons too.

2. Blazers (1. 78-4) (Pacific Champion)
Gave up Scottie Pippen (#10) and Dale Davis (#17) in the draft while picking up Marc Jackson (#18) and ? (#36). Losing Pippen will hurt but they were to dominant last year to fall to much.

3. Spurs (6. 60-22) (Midwest)
Gave up Derek Anderson (#3) and David Wesley (#25) to the draft and replaced them with Jim Jackson (#13) and Travis Best (#31). That will not weaken the team much and that is enough to claim third.

4. Mavs (2. 76-6) (Midwest)
Gave up Danny Fortson (#9) and Toni Kukoc (#16) and picked up Dale Davis (#17) and Ron Artest (#35). Also traded Anthony McDyess, Darius Miles, Shawn Bradley and a conditional pick for Karl Malone and Donyell Marshall. Will not be as good this year, but should be in reach of hca in the first round.

5. Rockets (8. 54-28) (Midwest)
We Rockets fan know small ball works. And Cat will get to prove it this year. Let go of Mo Taylor (#4) and Hakeem Olajuwon (#19) for John Stockton (#8) and Anthony Mason (#26)

6. Sonics (7. 58-24) (Pacific)
Turned the team around with trades and drafts, an even if they took playersin the draft I didnt expect to go as high I think they fit the team. Gave up Jermaine O'Neal (#5) and Brian Grant (#6) for Eric Snow (#12) and Isaiah Rider (#30). Traded away Gary Payton, Ruben Patterson and got Dikembe Mutumbo, Bryon Russell, Lawrence Funderburke.

7. Grizzlies (10. 36-46) (Midwest)
Big trade getting Iverson to go with other stars while cleaning out the depth in seasons to come. It will pay, as it gives Grizzlies a playoff spot, but would that last long in the deep west. Also had one of the better drafts I think. Gave up Marc Jackson (#18) and Larry Hughes (#24) for Danny Fortson (#9) and Mo Pete (#27). Traded Mike Bibby and Stromile Swift for Allen Iverson.

8. Twolves (5. 62-20) (Midwest)
Gave up Marcus Camby (#2) for Tim Thomas (#32) in the draft as they picked back Wally Szczerbiak (#14)

9. Lakers (4. 62-20) (Pacific)
Gave up Anthony Mason (#26) and Isaiah Rider (#30) for Glen Rice (#15) and Jason Williams (#33) in the draft. How can I pick them out of the playoffs? I want to. [IMG] I will update my prediction after the preseason and this whole list will probably change.

10. Kings (9. 46-36) (Pacific)
Gave up Vlade Divac (#11) and John Stockton (#8) in the draft for Derek Anderson (#3) and Chris Mihm (#21). Also traded Bryon Russell and Lawrence Funderburke for Juwon Howard.

The No-GM teams have no chance and will not get over 20 wins this season either.

Warriors 16-66 (Pacific)
Clippers 15-67 (Pacific)
Suns 14-68 (Pacific)
Nuggets 12-70 (Midwest)

Well since its prediction time I guess I will play along. Since I was able to loudly and proudly proclaim my champinship victory at the end of LAST seasons draft i belice we should be able to find the winner this season. to me it is simple. I am the defending champ. did I improve?? no. did I lose ground. well I lost depth, I gained skill in my starting 5. so I will say that uverall I lost talent. (how can one lose fortson and Kukoc(who should have gone 1, and 2 in the draft) and not loose talent. I wasnt at the draft so I wasnt able to politic my way to better picks, or any trades, so getting davic isnt all bad. and hopefully ceballos will be able to score some off my bench. I will call myself a 2 or 3 seed in the west. probably 10 losses this season. BGM has a real chance he could use one more "star" but who knows. the blazers didnt impress me last season, and they lost ground. the spurs are still tough, and lets not forget how far they went in the playoffs.
the best teams got worse and the worst teams got better. thats how the draft was supposed to work so bravo.
1 jazz
2 mavs-both top teams shook it up so we wont know exactly how much each got better or worse
3blazers/spurs

and it really dosnt matter after that.
the grizz may sneek up there(if stars matter more thn depth), but if that is the case than I predict the Mavs win the championship

I do want to watch our matchups

well my arrogance is fleeting

peace

Cat would have to give you your team as he is the only one who knows rosters for teams without GM for season 1. Or we could try to reconstruct it as he wont be here for some time.

Start with last years real NBA roster. Find the sims draft thread for last season to find who was picked from your team and who you got back for them. Remove Ilgauskas as he was pulled from the sim with season injury. Add Penny Hardaway who you got when you signed up. And check this years draft thread to control if you lost more players from your team.

Then you have to find out which to players to draft from the pool of players thats left. You can also draft any player playing on a team that has no GM with those picks.

Last seasons draft-thread

From this thread you can find out that the previous GM did some nice trades for you.

Andre Miller for Raptors Michael Stewart
Chris Mihm for a Nets scrub*
Clarence Weatherspoon for a Bucks scrub*

*)could not find who Nets and Bucks dropped when they drafted Mihm and Spoon, but Cat would know that.

Western
1 Blazers
They were the best team last year, why not again?

2 Jazz
IMO, Made a good deal, and got younger by adding Dice and I can respect them because no more Malone(J/K VOR)

3 Mavs
Not sure I agree with the Malone trade(Young for old), but this team is still dangerous and deep with Malone, Kidd, and Finley

4 Twolves
After a pretty good inagural season, I think my team will only improve because of its young core. But i will most probably see trouble at center where I have a very undersized Gugliotta starting

5 Grizz
Personally I found it hard to believe this team didn't have a playoff spot last year, but this season with Iverson, KG, and SAR, they will most probably land anywhere from 3-6(Depending on how the not-too-much depth, 3 superstar plan works out)

6 Spurs
Most surprising team from last season(I thought they would do better), After adding their draft picks to an already-excellent team with Duncan, Robinson, Miller, and Rose, this team is another great team in our loaded division

7 Rockets
This is another team that is really good, but because of the balance of power will probably land in the bottom 4 of the playoffs. With Vince, Francis, Stockton, Jamison, Campbell, they have arguably the best starting 5 in the whole sim league

8 Sonics
This is yet another very good team that might fall because of a strong conference, Jones, Russel, Mutumbo, and Snow make for a team that is powerful on both sides of the ball. Any of those four guys could easily make the all-defense team. Jones, Russel, and Robinson will have to pick up the scoring load, but with their excellent "D", that takes a little pressure off their shoulders

Two teams that would make me want to change the playoff format to the top 10 per conference:Lakers and Kings

Eastern
1. Philly
I expect this team to fall a little bit, because of the loss of The Answer, but still not a bad team at all, with "The Matrix", Camby(GRRR), and Bibby this is still my favorite to win the East.

2 Washington
Good SG combo, nice front-line with O'Neal, Walker, and Croshere. Armstrong=the perfect point guard for this team

3 Milwaukee
I honestly cant find the roster for this team, and therefore have no feedback

4 - New Jersey
This was already a talented team even though the previous GM didn't really see how it was doing. Now with Crisco at the reigns, and some excellent draft picks, this team will contend for the title.

5 Boston
Best two-man defensive squad in the sim. Mourning and Ratliff will be very instumental in getting this team to where it wants to go. Not to mention a solid back court with Johnson, Griffin, Ward, and Ollie

6 Toronto
Forget Dallas/Sac, this is the all-foreign player team(well really only 3, but this is the only team that has two all-star-caliber foreign players) With Stoj, Dirk, and a very solid cast of big men, this will be a good team
7 Detroit
Stack, Mashburn give this team a strong 2/3 duo. This team could surprise with Mo and Houston playing supporting roles to Stack and Mash. Look for either Houston, Stack, Cleaves, or Mash to be moved(To get rid of the logjam at these spots)

8 Cavs
Couple solid players in Taylor, Person. Team will be much better, given a more fair chance. They will also receive incentives(I'm not sure what they received) and two draft picks.

are you saying that the knicks, which made the playoffs last year without a GM, and even advanced in the playoffs is now gonna do worse not that they are under human controll?? I didnt see who they drafted, but I bet they are still potential playoff force. also, didnt they get ilgascus or someone like that??

Man, you people are all forgetting that I still have Cliff Robinson this year. I know people don't think of him as a tremendous scorer, but he averaged 18.5 for me last year when I had other offensive threats like Brian Grant and Gary Payton.

I am not saying I will do well, my bench is still very suspect, but I feel that with a little luck and maybe some decent mid-season trades, I could make the playoffs.
