OK, here's the thing. I simmed ahead to get some information on post-season activities (draft lottery, draft, resigning, free agency, and I found out a few things. First, the order: 1. Draft Lottery 2. Extensions 3. Draft 4. Free agency This will all need to be done over the period of a weekend, or something, cause I don't think I can save in the middle of this. Anyway, the draft lotto and the draft is pretty self explanatory. There are about 75 players or so in the draft pool, each with profiles, descriptions, etc. Draft order is just like the NBA. On extensions: I can sim ahead and give you in private what they would want if I simmed the rest of the season that day. This isn't an official amount, and you can't extend until after the season officially. But the asking prices usually don't change that drastically. Some players refuse to sign short or long-term deals, some players refuse to sign with some teams at all. A couple of stars would only sign with 5-6 teams in the entire league, and many of the asking prices were ridiculously high. So, in free agency, I'll say a player and ask in the chat who wants him. I'll then tell him if he'll sign with you and for what price for each year. If multiple teams want the player for his price, I'll devise a bidding system and the winner of that will get to sign him for the price that player wants. Now, because some of the prices will be too high for most people, those who go unsigned in FA will go into the free agency pool. This is the drawback to the game-- any people who go unsigned in free agency holding out for more money will sign minimum one year contracts with any team that wants them. So, we'll do like we did on the old sim, and hold a common draft. Since all players sign for the minimum for one year, the teams with the worst records get the top pick, and the best with the bottom pick. The number of rounds will depend on the number of free agents left. These will only be one year deals, and the players' asking price will go up after that year, but you will have the chance to extend him. If not, he'll be a free agent again. I know this isn't the most realistic thing in the world, but it's the best thing to do right now. Some quality players will go unsigned I think because of high asking prices, and it'd be unfair for a championship team to just be able to scoop them up for the minimum for a year. If you have any questions, post below.
Okay, a few questions - 1. Are there bird rights? You can go over the cap to sign your players with bird rights, right? 2. There is a max limit for what you can pay players right? I don't think there is anyone currently in the game that is very high over 300k, if there are any at all above that. 3. I like the common draft for what you described, but you don't get bird rights for them after that one year do you? You still have to clear cap space or use an exception on them to re-sign them no? 4. What do we do to get that info on the players that will be FAs? Email you? thats all i can think of now. If you don't answer within the next 15 minutes then ill just chalk it up to typical catness.
CK, 1. Yes. You can resign your own free agents in disregard to the cap. 2. 300k is the max. 3. I don't know yet-- I haven't simmed far enough ahead to see. I will get back to you on that in a few days. 4. What kind of information are you talking about? If you want to see the list, just look at the player salaries thread-- all players with a 1 next to their name are free agents. I cannot do extensions until after the season, and we will do that one day in the chat. You tell me the player you're interested in resigning, and I'll tell you the price he wants, or if he will sign at all. On free agents, I will let each team bring up a player they want to pursue in the chat free agency session. I will let them know if that player will sign, and his asking price. I am actually on the extensions page right now-- if you want to know information as of right now (it does change, though) email me at my AOL account.
typical Cat, What was that? 25 minutes? gah. Oh yeah, I sent you an email. I'll ask if I have any other questions, but it seems pretty straight forward to me.
