With the season coming to a close shortly, its time to get going with the second season. The draft this time will consist of all players given up by teams in the league (two starters each), and any player by a team not in the league (remember most good ones have already been taken from them though.) As of right now I want to have the draft Tuesday and Wednesday night-- one around each night. 9 p.m. sound good for you guys? Heath typed up the draft order for me a while back... this is what it would be if all teams were filled. However, to the right, you see the situation for each team as it is now, and if we don't get any new GMs it will stay that way. I know the Bucks and Nets GMs haven't been active lately, but I've heard of extinuating circumstances from them so at least for a portion of this coming season I will keep them in the league, and draft best available for them in the draft.

Attention all non-members: the league is pretty fun imho, and is worth your time. There are several teams not taken, and you are welcome to any of them. Many do not have near the same rosters as when they began-- stars have been stripped-- but there is a way to compete. Zo, Hill, Penny, and Ilguaskas will all be brought back into the league for the coming season, but will not be available in the two round draft. They will be dispersed on a first come first serve basis to any new GM who comes in and takes over a team (maximum of one of those four of course). So join! Anyway, here's the draft order. Trade picks like the numbers in parentheses for now-- unless we get new GMs that is the way it will stay.

Also, like Heath suggested one time before, you can trade future picks if you want for up to 2 seasons from now. If you are making a trade with several picks of different years, refer to the picks next week as 2nd season picks, the next season picks as 3rd season picks, and 4th season picks as, well, 4th season picks. [IMG] You may also trade rookie draft picks-- the rookie draft will be held as a completely seperate draft from the typical two round draft. This will not be done however until June most likely, when we know the players in the draft better and have a better understanding of where they should go.

Draft order (special thanks to Heath for typing this up):

    1. Hawks 10-72 (No GM)
    2. Nuggets 12-70 (No GM)
    3. Bulls 13-69 (No GM)
    4. Suns 14-68 (No GM)
    5. Clips 15-67 (No GM)
    6. Magic 16-66 (No GM)
    7. Warriors 16-66 (No GM)
    8. Heat 23-59 (No GM)
    9. Hornets 28-54 (No GM)
    10. Celtics 30-52 (Puedlfor: Current first pick in all drafts) New GM Season 2
    11. Cavs 30-52 (No GM)
    12. Grizzlies 36-46 (Nomar - 2nd)
    13. Kings 46-36 (DVauthrin - 3rd)

    14. Pistons 35-47 (Castor - 4th)
    15. Wizards 37-45 (deanbcurtis - 5th)
    16. Nets 42-40 (CriscoKidd - 6th) Franchise sold from GB Rockets Fan
    17. Knicks 45-37 (Johny Rocket - 7th) New GM season 2
    18. Pacers 49-33 (No GM)
    19. Rockets 54-28 (Cat - 8th)
    20. Sixers 55-27 (Heath - 9th)
    21. Raptors 57-25 (kbm - 10th)
    22. Bucks 58-24 (Ren D - 11th)
    23. Sonics 58-24 (RunninRaven - 12th)
    24. Spurs 60-22 (dc rock - 13th)
    25. Wolves 62-20 (vj23k - 14th)
    26. Lakers 62-20 (fadeaway - 15th)
    27. Jazz 72-10 (BGM - 16th)
    28. Mavs 76-6 (VOR - 17th)
    29. Blazers 78-4 (Smeg - 18th)

P.S.-- see this list as a preliminary for players available in the draft. It is not final-- that list will be made final on Tuesday if changes aren't made though.

I think it would be cool if we got an off-season so we could do trades.

What I'm thinking is after the final is done everyone comit their 2 players to the draft pool (we should perhaps have a draftpool thread so GMs knew what players were up for drafting). When this is done we get the off-season to do trade talks and perhaps find new GMs to untaken teams. A week or maybe two could do the trick - and if we got a full league of GMs this could really catch fire. [IMG]

And as I understand it you will be able to draft from the untaken teams in the draft too, apart from the the players taken out last year with season injuries or? We should perhaps try to get new GMs to untaken teams as soon as possible so everyone knew who was up in the draft before they traded away picks as the draftorder and pool of players changes with new GMs in the game.

So Cat perhaps you should start a season 2 - new GMs sign up here thread an advertise in other forums.

Another idea could be to have a preseason of a couple of games before the 2nd season started. Wouldn't that be cool - of course only if that is not to much work for you Cat.

Well thats it from me as of now - i have to hit the sack.

If you guys can keep active in trade talks, etc.-- then a week offseason after the draft wouldn't be a bad idea. My only concern is some GMs thinking the league was dead if nothing was going on-- but if you guys keep it going then it is probably a good idea. Any other opinions on this?

So Cat perhaps you should start a season 2 - new GMs sign up here thread an advertise in other forums.

I will do that very shortly... best way to advertise, however, is through signatures. Anyone in the league-- please do everyone a favor-- when I make the new thread tonight put the link at the bottom of your signature and some summary such as Join season 2 of the CC.net NBA Sim League. Considering how many people we have in this league, we can certainly get a lot more people involved. Note to everyone though-- if we get more than 4 or 5 new GMs, I will have to have an expansion draft where every team gives up a starter... because otherwise the new GMs would have no chance with those teams, and even with that it'll be hard but we have to balance out the power fairly, give everyone a fair chance.

Another idea could be to have a preseason of a couple of games before the 2nd season started. Wouldn't that be cool - of course only if that is not to much work for you Cat.

No that's fine. There's no way to do an official preseason, but what I can do for maybe 3 simming sessions is just sim regular season games and not count them-- I won't save the game if you know what I mean, so it will be the same thing as preseason. Won't count on your regular season record. Should give teams a realistic expectation for their team's record, and give teams a chance to experiment with their lineup a little. Good idea.

That's what we did during the last draft. I can also say if you forget to send a draft list or you can't make it, you can trust Cat to pick a really good player for you.

Yeah, just send me an email if you can't make it to SlamDuncan2121@yahoo.com and I'll pick whoever you want... if you have any specific instructions besides the list (positions, etc. in certain scenarios, like if you pick an SG in the first would you want me to pass on an SG in the second round even if hes your top guy left) please include them in the email.

When is the Expansion draft going to be? Shouldn't it be before the regular draft?

There will only be an expansion draft if more than 4-5 new teams get a GM. As of now there are only 2 new human controlled teams as Crisco looks to take over Nets. I guess the supplement for new owners will be done first but this looks to be done not on draft order - but sign-up order - so new GMs better be quick to sign up to get whats best from the supplement pool. Is this only 4 players? Zo, Grant Hill, Penny and Ilgauskas? - I guess if we get more than 4 - then we will have a expansion draft - will the supplement choices then be cancelled? Or will just those who got a player from the supplement be moved down in the expansion draft - or do they get lucky twice?

    QUESTION

If I trade a starter on my team in exchange for a starter on another team, can I put the starter I get from the other team in the draft?

Here is what I want to do:

Trade Antonio Davis and first round pick for another starter of lesser value and a higher first round pick.

No, I really don't want to allow that for several reasons. Among other things, the draft is made to balance out the power among the league, and when you do that the draft pool is getting inferior for all the younger GMs who need help. I want all GMs to give up two of the starters who played for their own team and made it successful or not-- that way the better starters from the elite teams that have to be dropped will be able to make a big difference on those teams like the Celtics, etc. To be fair, I really want everyone to give up two of their own starters... the only way over time we'll see a balance of power and a competitive league is to make the better teams work harder to stay good and give the little teams a chance to be good.

    CAT,

Ok, fine. I figured as much. Another question, how does the game deal with younger players and older players in respect to skills? And more specific, on the younger players, what deterimes how good they will end up? Is there a built in potential rating or something that you use to create players with? Or do you yourself manually fix the ratings according how the player is playing at the time?

I do believe there is a potential rating on the game for younger players, but as a whole most younger players do get better and most older players do tend to decline... however, this only goes to a certain extent. If we do 10 or more seasons in this league, Karl Malone's production may go down a little (but who knows with him), but he still won't be playing like a 50 year old grandpa even if the schedule date is 2010, if you know what I mean. [IMG] And you won't be seeing Joel Pryzbilla turn into the next Shaq either. [IMG]

Or do you yourself manually fix the ratings according how the player is playing at the time?

I have pretty much fixed all the ratings the way they will stay for right now. Potential should take care of the rest. If someone has a breakout playoffs then I might up them some, but more than likely players will remain the same until the start of next NBA season in November.

    Johny,

Only one injured player per team. I want to keep Penny and Ilgauskas available for any more new GM's who want to join and use them as a building block.

So you will continue to change ratings next "real" NBA season when you see what the rookies can really do and the hype has all gone away. We might have done 2-3 season or more before next "real" NBA season is over and we get a new sim rookie draft [IMG] Another thing is what if players retire from the "real" NBA next season - will you then retire them from the sim as we added the rookies - and if older players take a plunge next season (ex Malone produces goes down to 50-60% of this years numbers will you then help the sim adjust the numbers down for players like these faster (In the sim this can even be several season in the future depending on how fast we go). Another thing that perhaps is difficult is if a player is hidden on the bench in the "real" NBA and you have to use him in the sim as a starter -how would you know that he does not over/under produce.

Not that I really care what you choose to do, but it would be good to know what you gonna do so we know what players to trade/draft.

I dont know how you plan to add players to new teams but one thought I had was maybe giving them a few extra pics in the draft.

Look at this thread. Also, some teams that are on this list are already taken. You just have to find one. I think the best team not taken is charlote, but I could be wrong.
