I remember Heath talking about having a preseason in some other thread that's been buried.

I was thinking about this, and I'd want to test out some things, like seeing how a zone would work with my team etc.

I wouldn't want to just play bad teams b/c thats not a good barometer, so I thought that maybe we could have a tournament...

A tounament between all of the user controlled teams, kind of like how they do it for the World Cup. You could have 4 groups of teams that could play each other once, then the top 2 teams from each group will go on to a single elimination tournament.

I just thought it would be interesting to try it, it would be a lot more entertaining then just a brief preseason where your team might end up beating the hell out of the hawks and you'd still have no clue how your team measures up against the GM controlled teams.

There's 18 teams so maybe we could just throw in the 2 best uncontrolled teams to fill out the brackets.

I'm bored so I'll make up the groups how I would imagine them according to record.

    Group A
    Blazers
    Bucks
    Knicks
    Kings
    Pacers (No GM)

    Group B
    Lakers
    Wolves
    Raptors
    Nets
    Grizzlies

    Group C
    Jazz
    Spurs
    Sixers
    Wizards
    Celtics

    Group D
    Mavs
    Sonics
    Rockets
    Pistons
    Cavs (No GM)

That would be 4 games each team would have before they go to the single elimination. I guess the ties could just be figured out by margin of victory or Cat could quickly sim a playoff to get into the playoffs.

After each of these teams play each other once, the top 2 teams from each group then enter a single elimination tourney.

That's 8 teams, which means the single elimination tourney would be 3 games.

That's a 7 game preseason for the teams that make it to the final, and a 4 game preseason for the teams that didn't make it out of their group.

It's just a suggestion to make an interesting preseason where we could also see who the preseason favorites are.

    Thoughts?

Someone better respond because it took me a long time to think this out.

I hate to respond like this, but...

I don't know how if its possible to take teams out of the league for a tournament. What I planned on doing for the preseason was simming roughly 7-8 games and giving each of you a score for every game. I will tell you the opponents you play ahead of time, and you can try whatever lineup, defense, etc. against whomever you want if you tell me ahead of time, and you'll be able to see the results you get from lineups, defenses, etc. You thought up a damn good idea-- just don't think its possible on the sim. However, I don't plan on doing a normal preseason if it makes you feel better. I will tell you who you play, give you a score from every game, and let you determine rosters, defenses, etc. for each game.

sounds good to me, provided it isn't too much trouble for Cat(Doh!). I think preseason would be a good idea, to experiment with rosters and such b4 the season begins. And I notice you left the Nets out of your bracket. Scared? [IMG]

Yeah I was wondering if it was possible to do it. I just know for preseason, I want to take on the elite in the west. I don't care about those weak eastern teams.

In my bracket I put the Spurs and the Sixers. The Spurs b/c I've got revenge on the mind, and the sixers b/c Stromile Swift is one of the elite power forwards in the game. [IMG]

As long as I get to play against the Mavs, Blazers, Grizzlies, Spurs, and Lakers, I'll be happy. (I don't have to play against all of them, I'm sure everyone wants to play these teams too)

Oh yeah I want to play the sixers too b/c I want to beat up on Heath's team.

It was nice to think about...

One method might be to create a schedule with only the teams in the tournament on the schedule, is that possible?

Not that I know of KBM... if you could do that you could get a league with just those teams, but like I said I don't know how or if that's possible...
