There's a flood of questions. Walt Williams and Shandon Anderson were big disappointments last year and the Rockets are looking to upgrade the small-forward position. But who's out there for the cash-buckled team? ... Hakeem Olajuwon will be back to claim the $16 million left on the final year of his contract, but the Dream has lost more than a few shakes in his game and the Rockets know they need help inside. That prompted the draft-day deal for 7-footer Jason Collier, but he's a long way off from contributing. ... The most pressing issue, however, is getting guard Cuttino Mobley re-signed, a tough task considering the financial picture.

Hmmm... I didn't think of Shandon Anderson as a disappointment at all, and I was awfully stoked on Walt Williams performance the last 20 something games.

    tres bizarre.

very strange. Especially on Collier, I've always considered him very NBA ready, and not "raw" at all, for example, I expect him to produce much more than a Dermarr would his first year, but Dermarr will be better long term.

I also thought Shan was great, and at the end of the season Walt found his notch.

    Is

    12.3 ppg
    2.9 apg
    4.7 rpg
    .473 FG %
    .351 3P%

Disappointing from a starting SG playing 33 minutes per game???????

More numbers later, but it worth while to remeber who other starting SG are in the league: Kobe, Reggie, S. Smith, Houston, Peeler, Elie, Mercer, Abdul-Wahid, Dickerson, McGrady, Allen, Iverson, Finley, Hornaceck, Jackson, Rider, Kittles, Richmond, Jones, Sura, Stackhouse, P. Hardaway, Anderson, Hughes.

Shandon was great!! He upped all his numbers and played great D - not to mention shooting at a good clip!! Were we expecting him to be an all star??

Maybe the writer didn't watch any rockets games....

I'll take last year's Shandon. He had to spend time fitting in, IMO, I project 14 ppg next year for him.

His defense was huge. He was in charge of making up for Cuttino and Steve's shortcomings, and did so very well.

An undeniable sign of good things-He improved his monthly scoring average EVERY month. Not just a 1 time thing, he did it every time.

If I may step in on Walt, he averaged 15.66 points per game, the last 2 months (21 games).

During the same span, Cuttino averaged over 17 ppg (in 24 games, 20.3 ppg in the last 10 games) Shandon averaged 16.16 (in 25 games, 17.9 ppg in the last 10 games), and I don't have the numbers for Francis (nba.com has it screwed up, so I had to add each game by hand, and I only did it for 1 month) but he averaged 20.8 in the last month.

So this "great" Walt is the 4th leading scorer during his "hot" streak? Gee, I'm thrilled.

Nikestrad, look at Williams' shooting % during those games. In 17 games in which he played starting with the 3/16 Mil game (where he got his first significant minutes to start his run), he shot 115 for 211 (55%) from the field. And he shot 32 for 43 (74%) from the 3-point line. That's not hot shooting?

JV-That makes him streaky. If he's averaging a hair under 16 ppg when he's "hot" let's assume good shooting (50% FG%, 45% 3P%) He'll average, what, 12-13 ppg? And with no defense? And at over 6 million? No thanks.

    NIKE,

Walt plays much better defense than 'no defense'. You're too addicted to the BS attraction of getting Webber you're fantasizing every reason possible to get rid of Walt.

Actually, I no longer have a Webber fetish, as with or without Walt, we could create the space for Webber, but Walt isn't what this team needs, and I'd also prefer to do the Chicago deal for Fizer. If we want a shooter with poor (is that better?) defense we can put in Bullard or Langhi. Walt was supposed to be what Pippen was supposed to be (minus defense): A guy who can hit the spot up three, move the ball around, and slash when needed. He was consistently insconsistent on offense, and always bad on defense. Walt's better days are just about done, and at his best, he's not exactly an all star, ESPECIALLY at his price. Walt just isn't a defensive player. Neither is Allen Iverson. But this team needs more players like Shandon (moderate offense, very good defense) than they do Walt, at any price.

Here is why you don't want to ever beleive much of what you see on the net, especially the opinion of cbssportsline.

That prompted the draft-day deal for 7-footer Jason Collier, but he's a long way off from contributing. ...

I can see an argument for that. Collier was a "surprise" pick and some don't think he is ready. But, cbssportsline was his biggest supporter before the draft. Their player PRO-tential ratings is suppossed to be this "awesome" guide to ranking a draftees pro potential. They had Jason Collier at number 13. So he was the 13th most pro-ready draftee yet he simulataneously is a long way off from contributing. Guess taht draft really sucked then.

Man CBS Sportsline is dumb. Like JAYZ said, this is why you never believe anything on the net. Sportsline just ruined all their credibility with the Rockets fans.

Shandon was, OF COURSE, not a bust at all. Like someone already stated, Shandon increased his scoring every month. This means 2 things:

1.)Shandon developed and got better throughout the course of the season.

2.)Shandon felt more comfortable in the offense.

During the late season, I saw many times when Shandon would slash to the basket and pick apart opponents' defenses. I also saw times when he moved well without the ball and was found by Francis, etc. for a layup.

I think Shandon will continue on this hotstreak that he finished off last season with. Plus, everyone is so eager that Cato is working out hard and getting better. Shandon could be doing the same, and an offseason of training in his weaknesses could really improve him also.
