Yao will be done in the NBA by 30 at this pace. Hell, maybe even 28!

Who's pissed off that Yao has to be drag through the mud again this summer? which is better serve for him to rest up and heal his wounds and then improve his games right here.

It sounds like Yao does not have a choice, because the article on Sina.com says, "according to our agreement with Yao, he will report to China right after playoff, and join national team for practice. Sure we will give Yao Ming some rest time" Basketball officials said.

I wish YM could get some rest. He's going to have a short NBA career at the rate he's going.

It's not just a matter of longevity. Like Kenny Smith said: "NBA players improve their game and their physique during the summer, not during the season"

If Yao continues to fulfill his "obligations" to the CNT, I don't think he'll ever become better than the 18/8 player that he is now.

I don't understand why the Chinese don't see that having Yao stay in the U.S. over the summer will actually HELP them. If he trains/practices here, he'll improve so much more, benefitting both the Rockets and the CNT. He can't gain anything from playing with scrubs all summer long. Look at the way Yao was able to dominate the asian games last year. As long as he continues to practice at such a low level of competition, he'll never improve.

He needs to practice with NBA big men. The einternational game is not even half as physical. He could probably train with Shaq. Or he could work more extensively with Ewing. He could probably even sex Mutombo.

I'm sure this is what he wants to do anyway... Oh well, I hope we send AF over there and he rides his ass all summer... Hell, see if Boki will go and workout with him..

I feel like this agreement Yao has with the "China" is really an agreement with some shady officials who profit from these summer games. It makes no sense whatsoever to have him play considering the team has already qualified for the Olympics by virtue of hosting. Training 3 years in advance is worthless.

This is Yao's only negative that is worth discussing. It's just holding him and the Rockets back.

Well, I can't say I'm suprised at this, but I was really hoping Yao would be able to spend his summer in the U.S.

Like most of ya'll already said, this schedule is no good for Yao, hell, it wouldn't be good for any player.

Sadly, it is holding the Chinese Nation Team back as well in long term.

It is crucial that Yao gets next summer off. It’s really the last chance he has since he’ll certainly be called back in 2007 and 2008 to prepare for the Olympics. The Rockets can’t afford to wait until 2009 before they get their first summer to work with Yao on his game. Players have a window of opportunity to significantly improve their game during the offseason. By 2009, Yao will be 28, which is too late.

I think it's great that he's going back to China.

I just hope they'll give him more than adequate rest, conditioning and cross-training while he's there.

China gets in the 2008 Olympic game automatically so there is nothing important in 2007. Next year there is world cup and I am wondering whether that has something to do with this summer.

I don't think that is true ... I remember seeing a quote from Yao saying that he hoped he could stay in the US and work on his game in the summer, but that it was not up to him to decide. He is very loyal and will do whatever is asked of him, but I don't necessarily think its really what he wants to do.
