Anybody watch this game?!?! Dwayne Wade with some of the most amazing plays I've ever seen in a game. Absolutely demolishing the Cavs. If there's a way to get the last 5 minutes of the game uploaded here, you'll see why Wade is going to be one of the greatest guards ever. Backwards alley-oop was incredible; running down court and swatting the ball to Tampa; dribbling AROUND a Cavs player next to the sideline and tossing it to Shaq from right inside halfcourt for the dunk. WOW!
I was watching. You could probably fill up Sportscenter's top 10 plays with the last 5 minutes of that game
I have made the argument now for a couple of seasons that Wade has been so far the best of that whole draft class, even better than Lebron, but of course many have said 'no, you're crazy' among other things. I think he has intangibles that Lebron doesn't have yet, and he's more of a competitor and has that Kobe-like "I won't back down from no one" attitude, which I love about him. Plus, the kid is soo damn tough.
wade is arguably one of the most athletic players in the league. i think his biggest asset is his strength, however--he manhandles anybody at the 1 and 2 spots, and can hold his own with players much bigger than him at the 3 spot. i didn't think he would become a superstar because he's not as big as most 2 guards, but he brushes guys like kobe aside with his strength. in addition, he's really one of the only true combo guards out there, along with iverson and bobby jackson. guys like arenas don't count since they don't have natural playmaking capabilities. i think wade qualifies as one of the best point guards in the league, even though he technically plays the 2. he's going to have to get a 3 point jumper eventually, as he'll probably lose quickness to always blow past his defender in the future. then again, iverson never seems to slow down. lebron and wade are definitely the two competitors for dominant player in the near future.
not to be a walking cliche, but he reminds me a lot of jordan in terms of both his competitiveness and his explosiveness finishing at the rim in traffic. another similiarity is that contact in the paint doesn't ever seem to affect him due to his strength. even kobe and mcgrady show pain when they are knocked to the ground. if he were 6'6", i think more people would see him as being potentially lebron's equal or superior. lebron, if he continues at his current pace, has the potentially to be literally unguardable by anyone except for someone like garnett or artest. although i can't think of one defender who's shown the ability to keep wade from getting into the paint yet.
i can't remember, did billups guard wade a lot in the conference finals last year? off the top of my head, he's the only player with the size, strength, and quickness to bother wade on defense. also, prince? he manages to bottle up players quicker than him because he's 6'9" and his arms are so long. you basically have to run through him to get past him. none of the other contenders have the personnel to contend with wade defensively--parker/bowen/finley, nash/bell, daniels/harris. magette, if he was healthy, might have the strength and speed to bother wade--if you think the clippers are for real.
I'm not ready to put Wade above LeBron, yet. But at least I think we can all finally agree Shaq has nothing to do with Wade's greatness. Wade is just great, plain and simple, with or without Shaq. I don't think you are crazy at all. LeBron needs to prove he can raise his intensity level in the playoffs and perform even better than the regular season, like Wade. If he doesn't, I'll join your side. If Wade weren't on the Heat, they would be #2 right behind the Lakers on my least favorate teams list. He's the total package except for the 3 point shot. Except for game ending shots (maybe), I don't think that hurts him much right now.
I think Wade has a more polished game because of college, but there is no question that LeBron is the more talented player. What he has been able to do in his first 3 seasons at his age is uheard of.
Wade, along with Odom, carried a horrible Heat team out of an 0-9 start to make it to the second round of the playoffs. I am on the same boat as tigermission1 b/c I've been watching Wade since his rookie season and he is sick. Don't get me wrong, Lebron is sick and probably will finish with a Jordan type of career but right now, Wade is better b/c he has carried a team in the playoffs. He even carried them last season when Shaq went out in the second round of the playoffs (I think the Heat swept the Wiz with Shaq out 3 of the 4 games if i am correct). Wade is having and will have a great career barring injuries (I think Wade is easily better than Carmelo and is right up there with Lebron).
there is nothing dwayne wade does better than lebron. I'll admit Wade is a lot better than I thought he would be but lebron is in his own league. Wade is the second best player out of that draft, he's better than Melo. Wade does have some intangibles over lebron, I'll agree with that. he's tough, he's a quiet leader. that does make a difference
Well, Wade is the only player in the league who gets up after he is knocked to the floor. So he's got that going for him.
