The Cleveland Cavaliers have four picks in the upcoming NBA Draft—Nos. 4, 24, 33 and 34—and offered to trade all of them to the New Orleans Hornets for the No. 1 overall pick, ESPN’s Chad Ford reports (link requires ESPN Insider subscription).

The Cavs were immediately rebuffed, as the Hornets obviously believe Anthony Davis is worth a lot more than that quartet of picks.

Davis humbly stated at last week’s draft combine in Chicago that him going No. 1 was "not set in stone," and Thomas Robinson is making his own case to go first. But the entire basketball universe knows the Hornets are going to snap up Davis.

Davis is a potential franchise-changing type of player, one who can lead a team to championships. Four draft picks—even with one being in the lottery—just aren’t enough to part with that kind of hope.

Even in a year where there's no clear-cut #1, that's a horrible trade for the team with the #1 pick. If Cleveland wanted to make a real offer and not a troll offer, they'd add at least an unprotected #1 next year, if not more.

It's funny is the same trade were offered to the team holding the #1 pick in the NFL draft they would jump all over it. Even in this past draft with Luck. If there was a team that held the same picks the Cavs have in the NBA draft, I would imagine that the Colts would have traded away Luck for picks 4,24,33 and 34. Unlike the NFL, in the NBA one player can make a huge difference just about everytime.

Do you guys feel that #1 (Davis) will be more of an impact player then say, Barnes/Drummond/Beal and whoever the #24 pick would be, plus two role players?

Yes of course. This is the NBA where one guy can be worth more than an entire team.

Smart of Cleveland(or any team) to try, smart of New Orleans to reject.

Smart on both sides. Not really convinced about Anthony Davis. Cleveland could end up with the better player and all their draft picks at 4. Still Anthony Davis is sure to be at least pretty good.

Davis is a franchise corner stone. His value cannot be predicted. NO is right, you never trade someone like Davis.

New Orleans also has #10. considering the sad state of their team, they could draft a hell of a lineup who are both young/athletic/fun to watch, which would in turn put fans in the stands....

4/10/24 in this years draft is Barnes/Sullinger/Teague

Their starting lineup would look like this...

    Marquis Teague
Eric Gordon (who said he wants to come back)
    Harrison Barnes
    Jared Sullinger
    Chris Kaman/Okafor

Talk about a fun team to watch.

Disagree on this statement. I'm pretty sure the Raptors would have taken that deal in 2006. Hell, they very well still could have gotten Bargnani at #4.

Still, agreed that you never trade down from #1 when there's a clear-cut top dog in the draft.

No way you give up Davis. You can plug pieces around him and Gordon. They're cash cows for NO as well.

Davis is supoposed to be a clear cut #1. Everyone else after him have been deemed as "nice players" but not stars.

Didn't the Redskins give up three #1 picks and more for RGIII?

No one is trading the first pick, if there is potential star QB on the horizon. Trust me in the NFL, there's always those teams who look sort of foolish passing on the QB, when they needed a QB.

Yea. They swapped ones (2nd and 6th picks) then the Rams gat the Redskins next 2 first rounders and a second rounder.

When I read the headline I thought Stern blocked some kind of trade again.

    I don't think 4 picks are worth a Peyton Manning/Andrew Luck/John Elway type.

They would have passed in a heartbeat.

Clear cut franchise qb >>>> early first, late first and two early second round draft picks.

Comparison:2nd pick (aka 2nd ranked quarterback) in the draft was traded for 6th, 39th, and two future firsts.
