NYPost is reporting that Marshall has "agreed to terms with Cleveland."

    http://www.nypost.com/sports/nets/50126.htm

    Nice team they've built:

    Ilgauskas/Varejo/Andriuskevicius
    Marshall/Gooden
    Lebron/Jackson
    Hughes/Newble/Pavlovic
    Jasikevicius/Snow

If this is official then Cavs won't have the cash to sign Saras. Saras to Dallas?

damn the Cavs are really trying to get a winning team together to keep Lebron there. And they have done a great job even though they could not get Redd or Allen. They should be very improved next year.

Are you sure about this? They offered Haslem a deal starting at $8 million. I imagine Marshall should be getting MLE money (starting at $5 million) and Saras wanted $10 million over three years, so $3 million to start. If they could offer Haslem that kind of money, I feel like they could afford both Marshall and Sarunas unless there was another signing I wasn't aware of.

it must be nice to have lebron and tons of cap space.

just think if that were us...

yao, tmac, JVG, and tons of cap room.......

we might have ended up with stro, stoudamire, and a new SG.

I am just glad the did not target Swift or SAR, either of which could have cost us Swift.

To tell you the truth I were the Cavs I probably would have set my sights on Swift, than SAR, than Haslem, than DM. Glad they saw it differently.

this is all nice and what not but don't they have a rookie head coach and now apparantly not much money to give lebron when his rookie contract is up??? i'm still not sold on this franchise, sorry. they've been really bad for really long and last year they fired paul silas a very good coach and consequencially missed the playoffs AGAIN. hughes was a great sign and bringing by Z was important too but they have to find some interior defense and marshall DEFINITELY isn't it. they still are a borderline playoff team to me.

With Cleveland.com now officially reporting the Cavs have signed Marshall I believe it. The report is 4 years 20-25M.

Interesting move. I thought they were going to go for a guard like Saras or Jaric?

I guess with adding Marshall it is another way for the Cavs to add another "shooter" on the team to open things up for Hughes and LeBron.

But with them adding Marshall that means Drew Gooden's days are numbered. Since Varejo is a good backup to Marshall I think their PF situation is pretty good. They still might want to add another 'banger' PF but I am sure they are going to use Gooden to try to trade for a better PG.

Kinda funny how the PF dominos fell in less than 24 hours! SAR, Swift and now Marshall.

Cavs are still courting PG's, so perhaps a S&T involving Gooden?

All I know is he's supposedly a sweet, sweet shooter (I know Euros are all supposed to be shooters, but bear with me) who has some handles as well. Defense is porous.

    Donyell Marshall headed to Cavaliers

By TOM WITHERS, AP sports Writer
    July 19, 2005
CLEVELAND (AP) -- Free agent forward Donyell Marshall agreed to terms Tuesday on a four-year contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, giving the rebuilt club another player to complement LeBron James.

Marshall, an 11-year-veteran who played for the Toronto Raptors last season, was courted by a handful of teams before reaching an agreement with the Cavaliers, said his agent, Andy Miller.

``We look at this as an opportunity to join a team that could win an NBA championship real soon,'' Miller said.

Miller would not disclose financial parameters of the deal.

Marshall is the third significant player signed by the Cavs this summer and probably not the last. The club, which was $28 million under the salary cap, is expected to officially re-sign All-Star center Zydrunas Ilgauskas and sign guard Larry Hughes on Friday when the free agent signing period begins.

The Cavs are also looking for a point guard and have reportedly talked with the agents for Marko Jaric and Damon Stoudamire.

Coming off the bench last season, the 32-year-old Marshall averaged 11.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and shot a career-best 42 percent on 3-pointers for the Raptors. The Cavs are desperate for outside shooting to offset teams collapsing on Ilgauskas or double- and triple-teaming James.

Marshall has averaged 12.4 points and 7.3 rebounds over his 11-year career, and despite being 6-foot-9, he has made 35 percent of his 3-pointers.

In 2003-04, Marshall was the only player in the NBA to rank in the top 25 in rebounds (9.9), blocks (1.5) and 3-point percentage (.403).

A star at Connecticut, Marshall was selected with the No. 4 overall pick in 1994 by Minnesota, which traded him after one season to Golden State for Tom Gugliotta.

He played six seasons with the Warriors before being traded to Utah. Marshall also played for

I really what Ferry has done so far. He had quite a bit of money to spend and I think he did a great job in spreading it out and filling some holes.

    1. Signed Hughes- Pretty expensive contract, but is the perfect running partner for Lebron.

    2. Resigned Z- Every team needs a C, Z is a top 5 center.

    3. Signed Marshall- Perfect PF for the Cavs. Good rebounder and a great veteran shooter for this team.

They also have pieces that could easily be moved for a PG. Snow, Newble, Gooden, Pavlovic, and Varejao could make a pretty decent package for a good player.

Snow-Huges-Lebron-Marshall-Z is a pretty good lineup in the East, they also have guys like Varejao, Pavlovic, Gooden, and Newble coming off the bench.
