Well, guess where the police force gets majority of it's recruits from? People who aren't smart enough to get into college, bullies from high school who still want to have that power, idiots who watch Cops and think it's cool.

I heard police academy is pretty hard to get into, like half of people who apply get rejected. But if this is the best we had to offer, I guess our best just aren't enough.

the rejects are the ones who score too high. they want a bunch of low-grade morons who would do this kind of stuff - people w/ any kind of common sense, decency or intelligence would never do this kind of thing.

i do honestly believe that cops are getting worse and it is a deliberate policy.

Yeah, I get the whole wheelchair thing, it's amazingly cool that they can give quadriplegics some mobility. But a car is a bit different, doesn't seem safe at all to me.

From the video you can see that he has control of his arms (I thought quadriplegics couldn't use any limbs, but apparently that's not the case), they make cars with throttles instead of pedals so legs aren't required to drive.

I think what people mean when they state "More and more common" is police officers abusing their power. The thing is, I believe there has always been this type of abuse of power it's just we are seeing more and more of it in this day and age of technology, surveillance, and monitoring.

Well, he certainly seemed like an appealing fellow. I just wished they'd shown them a-peeling him up off the floor.

    It's funny because I don't know him.

"abuse of power" is generally a very gray area where mitigating circumstances are involved.

As a general rule, you don't see on duty officers physically assault someone w/o some sort of provocation, like this one did.

This instance is very different here. I am a staunch law enforcement supporter, and I believe this officer is a disgrace and should be fired and probably sued.

Yeah, I tried last year. During the interview, he asked if I had ever tried drugs. I said "no" and he spent what seemed like 20 minutes asking me that over and over again. The physical fitness part whooped my butt, but I doubt they would have accepted me anyway.

reading comprehension is your friend. i never said what you are asking me to show you. what i said was "i do honestly believe that cops are getting worse and it is a deliberate policy". they have lowered standards for entrance onto the force and that is a fact.

they should be, but dont be surprised if they just get a suspension. heck, in this day and age they might actually get a commendation!

well, if you mean the first regarding a cop tossing someone out of their wheelchair than i agree w/ you (and this might be a new low), but if you mean the first regarding police behaving in similar manners than you just havent been paying attention. it seems like every couple weeks one of these abuse of power stories pop up. just in the last few months i remember these - the cop who pulled the kid over in the parking lot and got totally belligerent and threatened to make up charges against him...the city councilman who got kicked out of a council meeting and while he was leaving a cop punched him in the head from behind and then started beating him w/ his nightstick...the dont tase me bro! guy and the kid at the ucla library who got tasered multiple times while the cops taunted him saying "get up"...

this is just off the top of my head - how much more of this kind of stuff goes on every day that we just dont hear about?

If this happened in another country, many would condemn the entire government. It's funny what a little perspective and context do to people's opinions even though police brutality is a problem here in the US.

sorry for the misinterpretation of your statement ...please accept my apologies

however, it is far from fact that it is a policy for depts to hire incompetents because they are the only ones who will take the job .....they consider incidents specifically like these when judging who and who not to hire (i.e. are they going to be a liability). Two of my best friends are in law enforcement. Both have college degress. One had to wait out 8 months of background checks and the other had to wait 6 months.

Thats not to say some bad apples don't drop through the cracks. They do, which is why there are unmitigated incidents like these.

    No profession is perfect.

$100 to the tipjar says she gets fired ........deal?

I do agree and it is a new low. The key with me is, it was totally unmitigated. There is nothing that justifies tossing a paralyzed person out of their wheelchair. I would be less condemning on the incidents involving tasering, etc. when their is resistance going on.

the officer is out of line and i believe was fired no?

Not heard of this one. Link?

I believe the investigation found the officers not guilty of any wrongdoing and the kid, after arrested, said he was trying to prove a point by resisting. Same thing happened w/ the kid @ the John Kerry speech. Afterwards, that guy told the officers that they did nothing wrong and were just doing their job.

With the media age, I believe we hear about most of it, or at least, the most severe incidences.

I suspect for every legitimate allegation, there are 20 that are found to be not legitimate. And given the amount of incidents like these versus the total # of interactions between law enforcement and the public, I believe the ratio is pretty small.

Rarely, however, do these instances occur where they are totally unmitigated, which is what we have here. Which is why this girl will be fired.
