It seems the cats in this area just seem to love to sleep on vehicles in my driveway (no idea who even owns the cats). Especially now that there is a new car in the driveway, they love to sleep on it even more. Any ways to discourage this?..... and no I don't want to kill the cats or abuse them.
Nah, no need to harm the cats I should say I don't know if a cat being on a car is likely to scratch it or not, but I prefer to not find out. Plus, be nice if they slept on their owners vehicles .
I don't have any firsthand experience with getting cats off my car, but I do have experience using internet search engines: http://www.critter-repellent.com/cats/cats-on-my-car.php http://www.yardlover.com/products.php?pid=10333 There's two products that say they work...hope to be of some help.
A squirt bottle would work, but then you'd have to squirt them. Another (crazy) idea is to cover your car with wrinkled alumnimum foil. I had a friend use aluminum foil once to keep her cat off a railing. It was pretty effective. Cats don't like the texture (especially when it's wrinkled).
dallasthomas.. thanks. I googled briefly, must not have looked long enough. Relativist.. interesting idea. Did the cats come back once he took the foil off? LOL the neighbors would love that one... car covered with foil. Then again, I guess could always get a car cover as well
I wan't joking about the squirt gun. It pisses them off, but it isn't cruel at all. It's also really effective. I've had WAY too many cats in my family. I'm not saying get a Super Soaker 100000 and knock them across the street, just something that will get them wet enough to remember the incident. Cats hate water, if you want them off, get them wet. It'll take a few weeks for them to understand, but it'll work. They probably won't scratch your car directly, but they'll be rubbing dust around and whatnot, not good for the car. EDIT: That cat repellent stuff looks interesting. I might check that out myself.
Cats will scratch a car. Not every time, but it happens. Trust me, I have a cat and he has scratched both my cars hoods at one time or another.
I squirted my cat a bunch to try get him to stop scatching/kneeding the furniture. It didn't work. All he learned how to do was run away before I could squirt him.
crums17.. I guess they would remember after getting wet a few times. I've never owned a cat so didn't realize they disliked water so much. The cat repellent does look interesting, I wonder how long it lasts. Speaking of super soakers...I wonder what the super soakers are up to these days.. I remember they used to keep coming out with bigger and bigger ones. saint louis and crums17.. yeah I figured they aren't good for the car.. and might scratch it. They don't seem to get on my SUV, but love to get on other cars in the driveway. They loved to get on my sister's Civic and now she has a new Mazda 6 that they love to climb on... would prefer the new car not get scratched up .. Thanks for the advice.
I should say that the cats don't do it in the day.. so I'm sure I don't see it most the time.. .just when I happen to get home late or go outside really late at night.
I really thought this was going to be about www.catssleepingoncars.com. "Show me another cat sleeping on a car!"
I hate the early morning cat that gets it's paws wet in the dew and makes little paw prints all over my hood. Is it possible to electrify the car? Maybe turn it on and off with a remote?
