2 weeks of playing good doesnt make up for 2 years of sucking. TRADE HIS OVERPAID ASS! I HOPE HE IS READING THIS!!!
Keep him - you could get nothing for him - maybe a second round pick. There are no big men out there. Hopefully he keeps up the hard work...
Rox need him! If it's guaranteed that we can trade him off and get an obviously better big center, go for it, but that's almost an impossibility. Plus he's doing good, and he complements EG and Francis well. I say keep him.
Cato is a developing player. This sis his fifth year in the league and I do not believe he got much playing time his first two years with the Blazers. Last year of course he had injuries. Now I would be the last to even try to defend his large salary that would take Johnny Cochran. But if we consider him as a developmental/project player then he is making significant if not slow progress. Will he ever be a top tier center? probably not but I think he can be a competitive center, Particularly on the defensive side. When you look at it there aren't that many good centers in the NBA and the position does not have the importance/dominance it once had. So in the next draft I would hope we cast our eyes on a three or even a point (to get Francis to the two spot).
No matter how disappointing Cato has been for us, it could be worse. We could have used the 1st pick of the '98 draft on Michael Olowokandi like the Clippers did. He has turned out to be a total bust until the past couple of weeks, where he has drastically increased his production. Olowokandi and Cato have about the same amount of experience playing in the NBA, and now we are starting to see signs that they might be improving. Obviously, Cato's ability has flourished more so while he has been playing with Stevie and EG. Stevie creates at least several easy scoring opportunities for Cato on offense, as well as giving him ample chances for offensive rebounds. On the defensive end, EG's superior shot blocking and shot altering gives Cato plenty of opportunities to grab defensive rebounds, as he doesn't have to move out of position to go after the block as much. His shot blocking has also increased because of EG's presence. I think one main reason Cato didn't do as well before was because of injuries, obviously, but probably more so because he was playing with Mo Taylor, who just isn't nearly the defensive player that EG is by any means. Now that Cato is getting more playing time with players who complement him well, he's able to do more things that allow him to be productive.
Its kind of funny, but Kandi man has been playing as well as Cato the last 3 weeks. I don't know if Kandi is looking for a free agent deal after this yr.
