No. At this stage of the rebuilding process, I think you need players with upside. Rice and Horry have no upside. They are as good as they will get. Cato will improve, whether it's with the Rockets or not is another question. 'Los has some upside. Williams is a good as he will get, but Rice is on his way down, and Horry has been on the decline since his 3rd season.

    NO!!!

I don't like Rice's game & I don't care much to have Horry back. But the biggest reason I will not trade with the Fakers is giving Zzz master the player he wants and letting Quitten have his 7th ring.

Not to open the floodgates mind you, and I know how many holes there are in this logic, but had we made that deal and the Olajuwon-Toronto deal would we have quite a bit of cap room right now? I'm asking seriously -- would we? I don't know.

We would not have Kelvin Cato (7 years, $42 million), but we would have Kevin Willis who would be a free agent also this summer (signed a 2-year extension during the season). No Walt Williams (5 years, $20 million), but Glen Rice who is a free agent this summer. Along with his wife. Horry does have a big contract (7 years, $35 million) but we also would not have Carlos Rogers' deal (5 years, $13 million) on the cap.

Plus you'd have rookies Jonathan Bender and Corey Maggette -- mind you neither did much in their rookie seasons but both still have pretty large potential.

BTW, if Scottie had been traded to LA, would he not be taking all the credit, from players and media alike, for Shaq having taken his dominance up another notch, Kobe coming in to his own, the team's great record and winning the NBA Finals?

Hmm... kind of like Phil Jackson is right now.

The Rockets made the right decision getting Cato, Williams and Rogers. Glen Rice is a slow, no defense playing, 32 yr old that seems to think he is worth the max. Robert Horry is an overpaid cap albatross, and I am still scratching my head at this new found love for him. Think Williams is overpaid? Check out Horry's salary numbers.

Well, since the topic of the Olajuwon trade has been brought up, I will comment on it. I have wanted to say something on this for a while, but I figured it would start a ryatt. [IMG]

Anyways, had the Rockets pulled the trigger on this deal and dealt Pippen to Portland along with acquiring Francis, there would probably be no need for much cap room. Imagine this:

    Cato, Bender, Maggete, Anderson, Francis
Bench: Mobley, KT, Moochie, Drew, Christie

They would probably have let Willis go as his contract ran out so I am not putting him on that team.

More than likely, with all that young talent, this team would have been in the lottery just like this past yr's Rockets were. That would add a top 10 pick to that load of talent. Also, Doug Christie would become some serious trade bait if this team wanted to move him on. Ouch, when you look at it spelled out on paper, the price for loyalty is GIGANTIC.

Rice and Horry for Cato, Walt and Carlos Rogers??? Geeze, I do that deal without blinking....for many reasons.

Sure, you get a great shooter in Rice, and a good defender with a decent offensive game in Horry.....for Cato, a raw shot blocking (when he wants to) center with a huge contract, Walt "I am consistently inconsistent" Williams, and Carlos Rogers (could come into his own if he was injury free)? Man, what is there to think about? Especially, as Clutch stated, since Rice becomes a free agent and we dump him for cap room, meanwhile getting rid of Cato's giant contract and Walt's too.

With the future in mind, I think that I would pull the trigger on this trade.

No way I'd do this Rice/Horry trade. Rice's game is way different than it was when he was with the Heat or the Hornets. And I really agree with others that he is on the way down. Even when he was at the top of his game I didn't like him that much, and I don't like Horry enough to send away guys that could do things for our organization. You have to admit, Walt had one great run at the end of last season.

Sorry guys, but Horry plus Rice is definitely worth more than Cato + Williams + Rogers. Out of the three, I'm most glad to have Cato, and most people want him traded! Let's face it, guys. After years of pulling off incredible trades to acquire superstars, we got bent over and screwed in the Pippen/Portland trade. Augmon was one of the best players in the trade, and there was some under the table deal to release him so Portland could re-sign him for less!

Like many here on the BBS, I always liked Horry, and he would absolutely be the perfect fit on our team, period. Defensively, offensively, athletically, everything. Glen Rice- one of the greatest shooters in the league. Do I want him on the team? No. Would he have stayed on the team? Of course not! We would have traded his ass for something valuable, dude! There were plenty of teams that coveted him. There are all kinds of player packages, lottery picks, whatever we could have gotten for him before the trade deadline. And if not, let him go his merry way in free agency, and bam- instant cap space.

You want to trade the only player in the league who can stop to Shaq? [IMG] Shaq would be the MVP for the next 10 years if Cato isn't around to slow him down [IMG]

Honestly I wouldn't, Rice is not a good fit here now and I don't see Horry as playing well for a non-title contendor (which we won't be for at least a year or two).

We need young players or draft picks for Cato!

NO way would I do that trade. We don't need Glen Rice at all. He's slow, can't play D, old, and costs a lot. Sure, he's got good offensive game, but he's just too old.

Horry is ok, but no way do we give up Cato, Rogers, and Williams for those 2 bums. Especially not Cato, we need a center.

You boys ain't listenin'!! You keep Rice for a year, let him put up a lot of points, then drop him when he becomes a free agent. I would not do this trade to acquire Rice, but to get Horry and clear cap space without losing too much. Cato can be replaced. Rogers and Walt aren't too valuable.

Clutch-Why'd you have to bring that up? If we only make the Toronto deal, and still do the Portland trade, We'd have a killer young lineup. Probably a top 5 pick as well. Francis-Mobley-Bender-Anderson-Cato-Maggette-Barkley-Walt is a load of talent.

With all the reborn love for Horry flowing around CC.net these days, this seems like a good time to re-pose the question of whether we made the right Pippen trade. Would you rather undo the trade with Portland and take the trade with L.A., if you could do it today?

Horry and Rice are the consumate under-achievers. If we are going to have under-achievers than let them be younger. [IMG]
