I'm a Cato fan. I like to criticize the guy for what he does on the court, not what he hasn't done. You can bash his work ethic if you want, but he helps the team more than he hurts it, and thats a GOOD thing.

That's why I'm offering a specific instance where I predict Cato will perfom well (if he plays..haha) - the Phoenix game. I dont think one game will prove his overall worth to the team, but I do think it will show how he can produce in a big game. Im not pretending he is the next Hakeem. But I'm pretty sure he isnt the anti-christ either!

drewdog, where's your proof to back it up? He has hardly played this year, and when he has, he's produced. I don't have to post his per minute numbers or any other stupid facts like that to strenghten my point. I know what I see, and what I see is a guy who contributes to the rockets more than he hurts them.

Try to prove to me he's hurt the rockets this year.By the way, I'm not saying he's been some sort of gift from god either. You can say "he's hurt us by not playing" if you want, but I just care about what he does do in the court as opposed to what he HAS NOT done. Let me just clear this up.I don't even think of Cato a part of this team for the most part, so anything he does when on the court is just a bonus, and when he has been on the court, he has been for the most part a bonus.

That being said, and even though I don't think Cato's half bad, Carlos Rogers should get more time whether it be at the 4 or 5. He ALWAYS produces, and he runs the floor better than any big man on this team, which fits perfectly with our guards style of play. Rudy needs to end his loyalty to the rotation and give Carlos more PT.

Point well made about Los Tacoma....

you are right....it doesnt seem like Cato is a rocket....I just dont see the return on our 7 mil per year investment when he is hurt and doesnt care.

Cato is what the Rockets need right now, especially since the Dream is out. Would you rather have Kenny playing center? Just watch him closely and see how he changes or alters shots that come into the paint and then how frustrated he is when a shot does get off on his patrol of the paint.

Sure he fooled everyone including Les into thinking he was heir apparent to Hakeem. Shoot he even fooled me. That is why I used his name as my handle since I thought he was the next coming of Hakeem Jr. ( and be cause Steve_Francis was taken)

At least he can finish on a dunk. Also he is a pretty big guy as well for which the Rockets are short in that department. He probably will never be worth the 7 mill a year but I think he can be productive as we have seen in the last few games.

    Go CATO!

If Cato isn't a Rocket, who's out there wearing the number 13 in a Rockets uniform, slapping high fives with guys who dish him nice looking passes so he can throw down 2 points. Who's that getting his back patted in timeouts because of his good defensive presence on the inside?

It's hard to be the most popular guy on the team when you've been on the injured list, haven't travelled with everyone else, and haven't shared the ups and downs of the full season.

c'mon, People! Cato isnt all THAT bad. Sure, he's a little jeckle-and-Hydeish...but I think he will have a big game in Phoenix. I think he will step up. I know he plays a little sluggish at times. But sometimes he is inspired and can come through in a big game...I say he steps it up in Phoenix...I'll tell you what, if he totally sucks I will refrain from ever using the phrase "Cato Time!" again...but if he does come through, as I predict he will, Cato-haters must post a "Cato love" post..how bout that?

Never said he was a good player on a consistent basis - or will be...I just say he's good enough to come through in a big game - against phoenix..

I agree, Kelvin Cato will come throught in Hakeem Olajuwon's absence. Cato will help the Houston Rockets with rebounding, defense, block shots and athleticism. Do not be surprised if Cato gets a double-double. Also expect Carlos Rogers to improve his game in Hakeem Olajuwon's absence. Rogers, like Cato, can run the floor well and block shots. Rogers and Cato will fill in well at the center positon for Hakeem Olajuwon. Cato is a terrific shot-blocker and he will force the opponents to shot jump-shots. Rogers is also a good shot-blocker. With Rogers and Cato play at the same time, the Rockets have athlecism, size and defense.

I'm still hoping we revisit the Cato (and whatever else) for Lafrentz deal that Clutch mentioned. Even if we have to move Lafrentz in a 3-way with Chicago for their pick. Something. Anything.

At the moment, I hope Cato plays great, gets us into the playoffs, whatever. We need him while Dream is down. But we need him gone after the season. His salary steals cap space, makes Shandon and his agent say stupid things to the media, et al.

If he could learn to catch passes a bit better, he could easily average 12 points. So often he fumbles perfectly good passes. That is his main offensive problem, becuase when he does catch passes, he usually finishes.

come on guys, Cato is not all that bad...quit bashing him, just need to have a little patience ( I remember the mo bashings earlier in the year, look how he turned out)...I believe he'll be a second tier center in the future, the kid is young and has alot of talent, especially on the defensive end...just wait and see after hakeem leaves, he's going to be an above average center, if not better...what I like is that he outruns all the centers on the fastbreak, when he puts his mind to it..he's the type that kind of need an authoritative leader in the clubhouse like a jordan to give him some motivation. Or a more motivational coach would do that trick I think...
