First of all Cato is not that bad execpt for his contract witch is not his fault you have to blame Carol and Rudy for it but other teams will not take cato unless we take an overpaid bust in return no team in the league wants to pay a bench player like cato such a large amout money so if we trade him away it won't be for a few years. ------------------
To Anyone Who Still Cares: according to realGM.com trade simulator, a trade of Horry for Cato and Rogers would work ------------------
He is not a bad backup but backups should not be making that kind of money. ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
If the the meaning of "bad" is a whining, lazy, underacheiving waste of a roster space ... well ... yes he is "that bad". Yes he is responsible for being paid far more than what he is worth. It is not the money, it is the effort to earn that money that we are talking about. He does NOT put any out! My friend, as someone who loves basketball and adores the Rockets, if he were FREE I would still not want him wearing the Red Glare. No I don't. I blame "Cato the Stiff" for not playing like he was, when the contract was offered to him and he signed it. You are confusing me ... if you feel he is "not that bad", than why can't he be traded "unless we take an overpaid bust in return" ? Now you are really confusing me. What exactly is your argument? If he is "not that bad" than why wouldn't another team "want to pay him such a large amount"? Sorry. You lost me completely, friend. Why would he be more valuable as trade in a "few years" when as you paradoxically pointed out somewhere that he is 'not bad" now but merely a "bench player". Are you expecting him to be more valuable in a "few years", or will "bench player(s)" make more money then? I tired to hear your argument but I couldn't get through all the confusion it presents. ------------------
thanks for adding punctuation for us, oeilpere. Now it easier to read, at least. [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited June 11, 2001).]
You shouldn't have edited it, HeyPee. It was funnier with the original line. ------------------ "Light travels faster than sound, so some people appear to be bright until you hear them speak." -- Brian Williams (now Bison Dele) commenting on Isiah Thomas.
Let me explain myself what I meant to say was Cato was not that bad of a player but his salary is about 4 million A season more then he is worth so the Rockets will have a hard time trading him away Quote: Oeilpere If the the meaning of "bad" is a whining, lazy, underacheiving waste of a roster space ... well ... yes he is "that bad". quote: Oeilpere Yes he is responsible for being paid far more than what he is worth. WELL LETS LOOK AT HIS NUMBERS YEAR TEAM G GS RPG PPG 99-00 HOU 65 32 6.00 8.7 00-01 HOU 35 13 4.00 4.7 from NBA.com For the contract he has signed I totally agree with your statement but for an NBA player I have seen a lot worse he is a lot better then Pig Miller Jason Collier or Dan Langhi If you go by the numbers and if he can stay healthy next year there is no reason he won't go back to 99-00 numbers witch are not that good but I can still live with them as far as his attitude is concerned I Totally agree with you and would like nothing better then to see him go Quote: Oeilpere No I don't. I blame "Cato the Stiff" for not playing like he was, when the contract was offered to him and he signed it. As far as Rudy and Carol making a mistake I STAND BY IT You don't sign a player to such a monstrous contract after one preseason game. I don't care how good you think he is. They should have waited until his old contract was up, before signing him to anything quote: Oeilpere Sorry. You lost me completely, friend. Are you expecting him to be more valuable in a "few years", or will "bench player(s)" make more money then? No the Rockets will have to pay him until the 2005-2006 season another team would be more willing to take him with two years left on his contract then with four or five years left it is that simple and he has the talent to be a 10ppg 7rpg guy in a year or so he could become more attractive to other teams if his numbers go up but if his numbers go down or stay the same it will be more difacult to get rid of him I am trying to look at the Cato situation from a logical point of view and everything that pisses people off about him seems to come from the contract it is to late to do anything about it so just hope for the best and remember if he was only making 2 million a season other teams would want him but not at 6 million ------------------
