New York Post writes, that Layden is still after Cato. Hope he gets him :) I would take anything with a shorter contract.

Even with the Michael Doleac signing, Layden, who returns from vacation today, is still trying to
trade for a center and also a point guard. Earlier this summer, he had conversations with Houston
about Kelvin Cato. Free-agent centers Michael Olowokandi and Rasho Nesterovic are still unsigned but
Layden would have to do a sign-and-trade.

The Knicks have nothing I want- short of a future 1st round draft choice. i like Othella Harrington, but we are loaded at the 4.... Scott Layden makes Dave Checketts look like a genius. Now that Layden has Shandon Anderson and Howard Isely back-he should make a deal for malone and Stockton.....

    i'd go for a 3 team deal:

we send ny cato and rice

ny sends sprewell to the clipps

and the clipps send us odom

ny gets a real sized sf that they have been after. and they finnaly get a center.

the clipps dont have to worry about contract talks with odom next year. afterall they will have to worry about brand and miller too.

we get the point foward that makes our offence and fast break work. we still have the exception to sign a backup center.

Actually they've already had Rice they are the ones who unloaded him to us. Do you remember that 2 years ago. I think that Kenny should be the one to go. Don't get me wrong I love the guy's game but he is unsuitable for reasons that we have all disgussed before. I can sort of see why NY would want him when he shows up he is a very good center, and in addition to that Cato could compete with any center in the East.

Yeah, it would have to be a three-team deal, because I don't see anyone on the Knicks that Houston would want. If the Rockets traded Cato I can think of three positions the Rockets would need to fill on the roster. I rank the "need" in this order.

1.) a decent center who can start while Ming gets used to the NBA, and who can backup Ming when Yao comes into his own.

2.) A younger, healthy, proven NBA starting small forward

    3.) A backup shooting guard

As you can see the #1 need would be a decent center...and we would have just traded him. I would only trade Cato for an equal-value center or in the unlikely case a really good, young small forward. The only problem is that I think Nachbar could end up being the starting small forward, so any trade for someone like Odom could prove to be a mistake. I never thought I'd say it, but I don't think the Rockets should trade Cato.

How about Kurt Thomas? He is a PF but can play the 5. He'll be a good back up for Ming.

And I don't want Odom on our team.

If we can trade big for big, then good-bye, Cato. Otherwise, we need him, even if he is an expensive backup; and he won't be a backup for most of this year.

If Layden is gonna overpay for someone, he should overpay for a center.

I say we start Collier and let Ming come off the bench immediately, the rockets could trade cato for anything cheaper, and they cant go wrong with that, Ming would start immediately after he gets a little pt, collier could backup.

yea i hear ya on the collier thing, but i'd rather let Ming start ASAP, throw him in there, its the only way he'll get used to the game quicker. get rid of cato atleast.

    Here's a good one I thought of:

    Hornets get:

    Jason Collier
    Latrell Sprewell

    Houston gets:

    Elden Campbell

    New York gets:

    Kelvin Cato
    George Lynch
    Houston draft pick 2005 protected

    Teams:

    Campbell/Ming
    MoT/Griffin/T-Mo
    Rice/Nachbar/T-Mo
    Mobley/Torres
    Francis/Mooch

    Cato/Doleac
    McDyess/Kurt Thomas
    Lynch/Weatherspoon
    Houston/Shandon
    Ward/Eisley/Frank Williams

    Magloire/Traylor/Collier
    PJ Brown/Moiso
    Mashburn/Augmon
    Sprewell/Alexander
    Davis/Wesley

    Thoughts?

    Cancel that.

What would stop New York from doing this directly:

    Sprewell
    Ward
    Kurt Thomas

    for

    Campbell
    Lynch
    Wesley

    Magloire/Kurt Thomas/Travis Knight
    PJ Brown/Kurt Thomas
    Mashburn/Augmon
    Sprewell/Alexander
    Davis/Ward

    Campbell/Doleac
    McDyess/Othella
    Lynch/Spoon
    Houston/Shandon/Wesley
    Wesley/Frank Williams/Eisley

They could still put together a package like Eisley and Othella for a backup PF.

If you take Rice out of there and replace him with KT they might do that trade.

WoW! You must be in very bad shape to think we should not trade cato!

I would trade him to NY for a twix candy bar. Maybe only half a twix.

    That butt-wipe is garbage.:D

Honestly though, Cato could freakin DOMINATE in the East. Hell, if Marcus Camby was anywhere NEAR a serviceable center over there, a guy with as big a body as Cato could shove munchkins like Jermaine O'neal and Ben Wallace around for some rebounds.
If you look at his stats, his career highs in rebounding, points, field goals, free throws, assists, and steals all came against Eastern Conference teams.

Did the article actually say Layden "is still after Cato" or that he's still talking to the Rockets about Cato or are you assuming this because he spoke to the Rockets earler this summer in regards to Kelvin?
