I really wish we had a good PF on our team. I think it's our greatest weakness, and really wish we had not given up so easily on Eddie Griffin. But, oh well ... not my call, and I understand their reasoning. It would not surprise me if JVG told them to cut their losses, and quit grieving over those three draft pics. But, I took a few minutes to look at the stats for our Power Forward tandem in January, and they aren't so bad. I do realize that some of the minutes are spent by Cato at center, so they're a tad skewed. And, I didn't include the last Boston game with Cato out. But, still interesting, and better than I thought, and they seem to be getting better. (BTW, does anyone know how I can post this in a table format, as in html?)
You make a good point. I was so sick of the Cato bashing a couple of years ago, I posted "In Defense of Kelvin Cato" to my Hoops page. (!) This season has been a revelation to a lot of people, and an awful lot of posters here haven't caught up. As for Mo, he has always been a good scorer, but has picked up his D this year, and recently has been pretty aggressive on the boards. It's hard to imagine them making a combined $15 million (?) this year, but at the moment, I thnk they're worth it. There aren't many PF pairs in the league who are better. "Duncan and anyone" would be one. I don't think Rasheed Wallace would be an upgrade.
Agree, who would have thought that this would work out. On paper it looks suspect, but that is why play the games. Hope it continues to progress.
What's funny is that KG avg's those numbers by himself. BUT I'd take that kind of production out of our PF's any day. It beats the days of Chucky Brown and Pete Chillcut
But you forget that Cato spend at least 12 mpg backing up Yao at center position. Or look it this way: Mo + Cato average 57 min/game as a combo, you should normalize their output a 48 min/game, and do the same for the likes of KG if you want to compare their output.
