Carroll Dawson was on KILT this afternoon and said he had been very impressed by Kelvin Cato's work eithic since his injury. He has been in the weight room constantly but cannot run full speed yet. The most interesting comment was that CD said Cato will surprise some people with his jump hook. He has been adding low post moves to Cato's offensive game every day with him since his injury and Cato is working very hard on his game. He said they mainly need him back for his defensive presence but his offense is showing promise. ------------------ Mmmmmmm. Sacrelicious.
I'll believe it when I see it. He could be talking him up for a trade ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
The sad thing is that I play pickup games all the time vs. dudes who have nice jump hooks. It's not a hard shot for a big man to learn. But Cato? I'm with these guys - doubtful. ------------------ I don't want to achieve immortality through my work... I want to achieve immortality by not dying. - Woody Allen
He could be talking him up for trade. Have we lacked that sorely at the center spot? I would not be surprised at all to see him traded for a different center, like a Raef Lafrentz, or maybe to a team like Chicago for a draft pick that would likely end up top 5 or so, for a guy like Loren Woods. Or maybe we'd get in on the almost certain Mutumbo trade, that would send Cato to Atlanta, and someone else our way in a 3 way deal. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Shandon is underrated.
Cato/Wiz-Atlanta Mutumbo-Knicks Sprewell/Hawks first rounder-Rockets Rockets take the lead in the Webber sweepstakes I know, fat chance. I can dream can't I? ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
I'm sure, the Rockets missed cato's presence on the court, hopefully his offense will make a big impact. ------------------ Rudy T. will find and fulfill Rockets destiny.
There's no such thing as "good news" on this board anymore, is there? ------------------ Mmmmmmm. Sacrelicious.

AMEN Finn Also we really havn't seen cato enough this year to judge him...wait on second thought maybe we should trade him before he gets hurt again. ------------------
Jeff, Is this not news we have heard before about Mr. Cato. Sure we have. Catos game is a work in progress. he's bulked. he's mature. he a league leadin' rebounder. Now, he's got a hook. Thats all fine n' well but when is all the bull thrown out on the court with the man. I will be rootin' for Cato when he returns but my faith in his NBA game is dilapidating. ------------------
Look at our record. Look at how our guys are playing. Thats not good news? You guys must dont remember starting 2-8 last year with Dream and Barkly both in the lineup. ------------------ I'ma need more than 6 and a half rebounds a game from the PF
Finn I always knew you were genius....best news I've heard ever next too Jeff saves Rocks of course ------------------ Mitch Meluskey...The real Slim Shady [This message has been edited by Summer Song Giver (edited December 01, 2000).]
Personally, I can not wait to see Cato back in form, we need him if the Rockets are going to go anywhere this year. DaDakota ------------------ If Mankind evolved from Monkeys and Apes, then why are there still Monkeys and apes?
bob, trading cato for spree wouldnt improve our chances for webber. webber wants to paly power forward and not center(which is why he got kings management to acquire divac). if cato is traded for spree, we lose a good big man and clog up the guard spots even more.
I think what Finn was trying to say and correct me if I'm wrong was we could use Atlanta's pick next year which looks to be very high to pick a center. And with Spree we'd have no need for Shandon. ------------------ Mitch Meluskey...The real Slim Shady
Actually, I was thinking of Spree as a SF And yes, using the pick to draft a Center ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.

Finn, I like the way you think. But your scenario isn't complicated or impossible enough. You have to reach for the stars so that you can fall flat on your face. Here, it's easy. I'm good at it. If one can dream.... I worry that Shandon will bolt after this year. I know he can get on track, but Cuttino's comments about wanting to make the All Star team and his unwillingness to share the rock with anyone, make me wonder, can't we package players in a way that they'll wind up happy? TO ATLANTA: Cato + Shandon (native Atlantans) + Walt + Los + I don't know, I'm running out of players: Bullard? KT? (I'd only part with KT if we get a first round pick out of this, too) TO NEW YORK: Mutombo + Jim Jackson TO HOUSTON: Sprewell + Marcus Camby Of course, I don't know if any of this would work because both Cato and Sprewell are BYC players, Mutombo makes a ton of dough-re-mi, and Rudy and CD don't want to show disloyalty to Shandon. We have a small trade exception to use. But as far as Shandon goes, I don't know, Cat wants to start, and Cat's certainly not going anywhere. Cato's played about three or four memorable games for the Rockets, not including last year's preseason, which he used to rape the team for $42,000,000. My ain't-gonna-happen trade scenario notwithstanding, is CD floating that "jump hook" bit out there as trade bait? December 16th happens to coincide with the date that many players can be moved (and Cato could be packaged). ------------------
