When we got him . . .All I thought was Power Forward. I figured he'd be a capable Power Forward. [See Otis Thorpe] I don't know about his abilities at center. I guess the problem is that Power Forward has become such a POWERFUL position these days. Centers are becoming extinct the Power of teams is PF - SG and PG Offenses seem to be coming through these Spots. Their are not many DOMINATING SFs in the league and then number of Dominant Centers is dwindling. Rocket River
I think Cato looks bigger than Hakeem. Hakeem is pretty skinny to me, and I think Cato looks much more built up than Hakeem does. I admit that Olajuwon is taller than Cato, but 1 or 2 inches doesn't really matter that much. Especially with the athleticism that Cato has.
Snowman That one or 2 inches is a big difference considering Hakeem is 6'10 [at best] and was a center. That would make Cato 6'9 ~6'8. For a center that is too short IMO. We can report him at 6'11 but that don't change his actual heigh . .. . SHAQ IS 7'0 Rocket River
Maybe Cato's is 6'11" and maybe he ain't; but all heights in the NBA are inflated, so what does it matter? But Cato plays a center's game. He's a good defender at that position. He's probably quick enough to play PF, but as Rocket River pointed out, centers are becoming extinct -- so why not use the rare commodity we have. Having a quick, athletic center is awfully nice to have. Have someone else (someone who can really score) play the PF position. I like the idea of another incarnation of the Twin Towers when Olajuwon gets back, but I think that should only last until we've got a real starter at PF (no offense, Carlos).
Either way Cato has no offense whatsoever. So if you put him at PF, whoever you got at Center better have some offensive skills, and if you play him at Center your PF better have offensive skills. I have come to the conclusion that unless Cato really takes the time to develop an offensive game or some go to move besides the DUNK, then he is simply a good defensive player. ------------------ Stevie Wonder says "they call him FRANCHISE because his dunks are for sale at an arena near you."
I've been saying for a long time that I don't think Cato is big enough to play center. He's listed at 6'11" and 255 lbs, but that's basically what Hakeem is listed at, and he doesn't look as big as Olajuwon. I think he's more like 6'10" 230lbs at best. And I do think he should play PF. ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem.
I will take someone who has no offense...shoots better then 50% and plays MAD defense ANYDAY !! DaDakota
