Who is with me? The Mavs need a defensive minded Center, and the Rockets need a player who can score. Jamison is wasted in Dallas, and Cato is wasted in Houston. I think it makes both teams significantly better. Dallas gets their defensive force in the middle who could thrive on Alley Oops from Nash, and the Rockets get a 6'9" SF/PF combo who compliments Yao and Steve. SO....a simple yes or no on the trade will suffice. DD
Dallas was willing to let Jamison go for B Grant according to Marc Stein. I don't see why they wouldn't think about Cato who is bigger, and maybe a better defender than Grant.
I'd think long & hard about this one. We could move MoT to the starting lineup, Jamison could start at the 3 ... we'd be weak at backup C and weak at backup PF. But our starting rotation would be sound. We might have to throw in a guard to get a backup center.
Jamison makes max money without having max money talent. That's asking for a Brian Grant situation like the Miami Heat. The Rockets' payroll situation is one of the worst in the Western Conference.
We might have to throw in Boki or another role player to even it out but I think it would be beneficial for both teams. I don't like Jamison that much but he would bring some scoring at the forward position this team is lacking.
SAR is the same deal, with less years on the undeserved max. In fact, SAR is better. Jamison struggled when moved from the 4 on the Warriors, when they tried to combine him with Fortson for more rebounding. He lost his quickness advantage, and couldn't get easy boards. SAR handles the three spot much better. Jamison is Mo Taylor with cherries on top. Go ahead and move Mo to the three, if you want that. You can't move him anywhere else.
Cato for Jamison...............not going to happen. Dallas, unlike the Rockets, is an organization that is willing to got he extra mile to win. They have no problem spending money to be contenders. Only a team looking to dump salary would trade a player like Jamison for Cato.
Well, we may end up taking a player who gets the max... The Rockets need a pretty big splash + some wins to get fans interested.
i hate to say it but......... we cant lose cato we need his rebounding presence to help yao out b/c yaho isnt always there to get every rebound. mo t cant rebound and he never will jamison is good when he demands the ball. i wouldnt do it. sure he will help some of our offensive woes but he can be the great compliment to yao and play decent enough defense to say that we wont miss cato as much.
Houston trades: C Kelvin Cato (6.1 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 0.9 apg in 28.6 minutes) PG Moochie Norris (2.5 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 1.7 apg in 13.8 minutes) Houston receives: SF Antawn Jamison (15.2 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.1 apg in 29.8 minutes) Change in team outlook: +6.6 ppg, -2.5 rpg, and -1.5 apg. Dallas trades: SF Antawn Jamison (15.2 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.1 apg in 29.8 minutes) Dallas receives: C Kelvin Cato (6.1 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 0.9 apg in 26 games) PG Moochie Norris (2.5 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 1.7 apg in 26 games) Change in team outlook: -6.6 ppg, +2.5 rpg, and +1.5 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Moochie & Cato for Jamison works. But it will only happen in my dream. As to someone says we need Cato to grab rebound, I would say Jamison is also pretty good at that.
I would do this in a second, before Dallas realizes it's a bad deal. But how would Jamison fit in with Van Gundy's 70-point-per-game offense?
Jamison would have to agree to only score 8 points a game for him to fit in with our current squad. wow.... lots of negativity right now.
I am in Dallas for Christmas, and they say that the Mavs are actively looking for a center. Bradley is out indefinitly, and they are looking to get someone that will be a defensive presence at the center spot. Jamison is expendable to Dallas as his 6th man role shows. I think the Mavs would seriously consider it, and with our 6.5 million trade exception, we could easily consumate it. CD, if you are reading this....MAKE THE CALL !!! We need a lifeline... DD
I think SAR is better fit for us. He is stronger and taller than Jamison and get 20/10 through out his career. The question is Hawks may not be interested in Cato as their C because they already have Ratiff. So Cato for Jamison, I support it!!!
