dont you think this trade is light years better than hersey hawkins and the #4 for jermaine o'neal.

then we could draft darius miles, right?

i hope the rockets are looking into stuff like this....

    ------------------
johnny "red" kerr:i'm glad the bulls did'nt draft steve francis.

    dan roan: why!!!!!

johnny red kerr:because he would forever be compared to michael jordan.

It may be better than the O'Neal trade, but I still don't know if I'd do it. Who would be our center?

pig miller? j/k , i'm counting on hakeem playing one more season, then we can look at the free agent market for a center when he retires.

I see, and I think Hakeem will play too but can you honestly expect him to play more than maybe 40-50 games next year with his injuries? And also how many minutes per game could he get? I say not many. I like the trade from a talent perspective, but I am worried who would be our center next year, because Hakeem can't do it alone.

Maybe we throw in one of the draft picks owed to us in the next few years and and have Chi add the 24th pick and maybe pick up a Jason Collier, N'diaye, or Magliore

I posted a reply in another thread that mentioned this possibility; my scenario was a little different. I was thinking we could trade Cato along with #9 for Chicago's #4. (I guess we throw in the future Detroit or Orlando pick to sweeten the deal.) The Bulls are high on Barkley, who isn't quite worth the #7 pick. So we draft Barkley at 9, give Chicago the point guard that I don't think would be otherwise available for them (unless they grab Anthony Carter via free agency). It makes some sense, if Chicago doesn't mind picking up Cato's price tag. Wasn't Cato recruited by Tim Floyd? In any case, there is the Cyclone connection. As far as replacing Cato, I guess we'll know after we bring in this Nate What's-His-Name next week.
Or we could pass along Drew, but will Chicago want him? Save him for a package with KT plus the other future first round pick owed us (and the 4.5 exception) for Austin Croshere (hey, I've got more pipe dreams than you can imagine...)

I think we should try to get another pick in the 10-15 range, besides the lotto pick so we could grab Miles and Moiso.

how do we plan on grabbing Miles at 9? And, I'm almost positive Orlando would jump on Moiso at 10.

ROX-If Chicago is willing to do O'Neal for the #4, why would we even add our #9, let alone a future pick in the mix?

I still say Cato should not be traded unless the Rockets get a quality veteran center. We'll be lucky to get 25 mpg from Hakeem.

I'm beginning to think the Rockets should just keep their #9(unless an offer they can't refuse crosses the table), take Miles, D. Johnson, or Mosio and attempt to get Croshere(would Indiana trade him?).

I'd love to have Darius Miles on this team, but this deal leaves the Rockets way too thin at center. There are no guarantees on how Hakeem will hold up, and Pig and Massenburg just are not going to cut it. The Rockets need some defense and shot blocking in the frontcourt, something that will be sorely missed if they deal Cato. Maybe if they have something else in the works for a solid defensive center then it could be worth it, otherwise I think it would be best to just stay with the 9th pick. The frontcourt would be pathetic with two undersized big men (Massenburg and Pig) manning the center position if Hakeem could not play consistent PT.

If we get rid of Cato, I think we'll be able to pick up another center ... with a high lottery pick in next years draft. I don't think I want to sink further next year; I want to start rising.

How about KT, Drew, #9 future 1st round pick for #4.
Think about it if we were to trade Cato for the #4 pick we wouldn't be able to get Miles or Moiso cause we would have to take a center there. Most likely Mihm and I'm not high on him at all. Honestly I don't really agree with my trade unless Swift, KMart or another Franchise PF came down. We need a PF desperately and need to keep Cato. Francis, shandon, wizard and cuttino can get it done on the offensive end. I think we need Moiso more then Miles (even though I like him more) I don't really think we should worry about trading up players for a higher pick!

Miggidy-Because the Bulls would be plain morons.

They don't want extra salary. They don't need Kenny Thomas (that's the only position they have anything locked in.) And it's doubtful they need Bryce Drew.

The Bulls might be interested in Cato, our #9, our #38 for their #4, #24, and #34. They are thinking of giving Portland their #4 for Jermaine Oneal and their #28. With our #9, they'd end up with 2 lottery players and a center. They could pick up Miller and Alexander with the 7 and 9. It really depends on if they think they need Oneal to get McGrady and Thomas.

We need to keep Drew to trade for Kandi, or someone like him in a sign and trade with our exception.

We already have KT. I believe he's going to be a good 4, maybe not a star, but a good power forward. In the league's all-Rookie team, he was voted as the 9th best player in last years draft. Last years draft was better than this years, so he's proven to be better than anyone we'll be able to pick at our #9 spot, unless we take a project like Stephenson or Johnson.

We need a 3 more. Miles or Miller are the guys we need, or else convert DerMarr Johnson into a 3. Now if we were talking Swift or Martin, that's different, since that's an upgrade. I'm not sure that Moiso is that much of an upgrade over KT.

We are rebuilding. The pieces we have so far are:

    C - Cato
    PF - KT, Rogers
    SF - ?, Anderson
    SG - Anderson, Mobely
    PG - Francis, Norris

Thats an actual team. Now we need depth and upgrades. We have 2 stars in Francis and Mobely, now we need good role players who can run with these guys, and depth on the bench.

The Rockets aren't confident in Cato, so we need to upgrade there. After that priority, we need a 3. And remember, we'll use our exception to pick up someone in a sign and trade this year. And after Dream leaves, we'll sign a major FA. So we aren't finished if we trade Cato.

In the above scenario, with the #4, 24, and 34, we could pick Miles, Samake or N'Diaye, and Porter. That would be a very good draft for us.

Sherlock-9th best rookie means nothing. Technically, he was 11th best (as voted on rookie teams), and it was only as a rookie. Neither KG or Kobe made 1st team all rookies, and I think it's safe to say they were the best of their years. Guys like Maggette, Avery, Langdon, (heh, 3 Dukies)Davis, Bender, and MANY MANY more haven't gotten their chance yet, which KT did.
