First of all, I'll admit to being really irresponsible on this one. I'm getting my cats fixed really quick, the male one tomorrow. Anyways, I wake up this morning and found the kitten (she only had one) on the kitchen floor. I was in shock. I didn't know what to do, it didn't even look like a cat and I was surprised that Frasier (my female cat) wasn't nurturing it. I think she was distracted by Niles, the male cat, and she's a little young. I called my friend and she came over immediately. I literally panicked and didn't know what I should do. She and I took them to the vet. Frasier, at the ripe old age of 1, is now a very good mother. BTW, I was advised to keep the male cat away from the baby. Would he hurt it? He's the nicest cat in the world.
I've never had a problem with it. In fact, my male cat was very protective of our kittens. You know, cats aren't supposed to do things like this... but I could swear that when they were still young, but went outside occasionally and we wanted them inside... he'd round them up for us. Like, they'd get under the car... and he'd chase them out for us. It was really amazing. But I don't see anything wrong with being safe until you're sure.
Mazel tov!! Seriously though, I found my cat in the backyard. She was left by her mother because she was the runt of her litter. I watched as the mother took all the babies to my neighbours backyard (I have no idea why- they were stray cats) and they left the smallest one. So we took the kitten to the vet, and now 13 years on she is as healthy (although tiny) as any other cat. I like cat stories...
awwww a kitty! did you take the mom cat to the vet too? when my cats have had babies it has never been only one.... maybe shes not done. (seriously)
thats what I was thinking OR the one you found could have been the runt of the litter(hence the cat ignoring it) you might have a bunch of kitties in your house dude!
Nah, that was the only one. I had her x-rayed, 40 bucks, lol. She's very protective of the baby right now. Why do they only leave the runt? Also, is it true that she eats the baby's poop?
Yeah, gr8-1, that part is true; she will lick them clean.... When my cat had kittens my other two male cats were great about it-- one in particular. He like to loll around with the kittens and play with them. We called him the Favorite Uncle.
Hmmm... well I wonder why my vet said to keep the male cat away. It may just be a precaution, but I don't want to isolate him from the female and baby.
i think the mommy cat will take care of her baby if the dude cats try to mess with it. you should just keep an eye on it dont force it to do anything. did you name it yet? if not diseased monkey could be a choice!
